Jimbo,
Your obviously very young and new to the mental health system and haven't experienced coercive psychiatry. Just a word of advice, tread carefully, many people diagnosed SZ have had their lives ruined by psychiatry.
Jimbo wrote:That list about psychiatry doesn't even deserve to be responded to. But I will anyway. Obviously, whoever posted that list, had an extremely bad experience with a psychiatrist or two and has since had it out for them. Also, it appears as though the person who posted that has symptoms of schizophrenia. The overall mood of that posting is "these people are out to get us!", "They have evil intentions and must be stopped!". It might just be me but I feel like that type of attitude is reflective not of the truth of the matter, but rather the schizoid thought processes of whoever believes it. I don't mean that as an insult, I am just trying to bring to light the paranoia that seems to underlie a lot of the claims about psychiatrists.

When does seanetal return and this anti psych forum going to be set up?
I don't think putting up an anti-psych forum is a good idea, that is just going to make people on here upset and angry.
The main point is that I believe in psychiatry (for the most part) while others don't. Fair enough. Let's try to keep the debate structured around that. Deal?
First and foremost, I do believe that the idea of having an "anti-psych" forum on a community of mental health support forums is absolutely outrageous.
I understand that there are people out there who dislike or even dispise psychiatry, and I agree that some of their points are valid, but why bring forth those views here, in this community?
It is rediculous, in my opinion. If there were a forum about tennis, would their be a forum in there titled "anti-tennis"?
Please, do not let these people convince you to let this area live. It is not safe for the community. Anyone who agrees with me on this point, please speak up. Your opinion matters, i'm fairly certain (or at least I hope). Was a consensus reached, or did the mods just decide it would be a good idea? If the later is the case, could you please present to me the case for this section?
Secondly, havOk, posting things such as:
annihilate psychiatry!!!!!!!!!!!
is very pointless and annoying, to be frank. If you strongly dislike psychiatry, I would love to debate your points of evidence with you. Honestly, however, I really don't think that you have a real grasp of what --psychology-- really is, or you wouldn't be making statements such as the above.
Please listen to me, before spitting out various defenses and counter-arguments. Your anger is misdirected. Most of the things that you have stated I strongly agree with. I understand your thoughts on the matter, and have came to many of the same conclusions as you. I read just as much, if not more about things of the same nature as you.
Let me state that I am very against medication, except in extremely rare cases where it is absolutely necessary. Just because there are many, and I do say many, problems with modern psychiatry, does not mean there is not need for the field. In fact, psychiatry is a necessary field in today's society. Please see my post under the bipolar forum, and you will see that much can be acomplished without the use of medicine. I do believe that your anger should be focused toward the pharmicutical industry instead. Drugs are not the only treatment provided by psychiatrists. Yes they can provide meds, but many a shrink has helped me out throughout the course of my life without having to provide me with meds
As far as your attitude toward society, (and this is not really appropriate for a psych forum) Yes, we did create it, but it is quite real. It is reality, after all. We created it all for our benefit, obviously. Yes, there are problems, but don't even try to tell me you think chaos is the solution. Please...
