I'm sorry you had such an experience and glad you were rescued before things got worse.
You'd think it was 1894. Just because the tools of control are now chemical rather than physical, people falsly believe that mental health care is 100% compassionate. It simply isn't. Too many doctors view illness as somehow immoral. They fail to acknowledge the patients role in healing, while giving sole responsibility to the patient for being ill in the first place. This may not be a conscious thought, but the actions of some practitioners show its extenuation.
How much labels matter! What if electroconvulsive "therapy" were labeled simply electrocution? What if psycho-pharmacueticals were labeled mind-altering drugs? Would people as readily support electrocution and doping as they do under thier misleading labels? The "professionals" know how much these labels matter. That is why they refrain from such terms as shock treatment and tranquilizers.
