It's insidious, costly; some swear by it though

The nonchalant use of the term, my diagnosis, distresses me to no end. What? you like being labeled? TV commercials distress me because they aim expressly to seduce, and the brutality isn't spared. They hope the viewer is weak-willed, or at least caught off-guard; they play to the viewer's basest instincts, especially to his/her envy. It's insidious, vile.

After living a long and fruitful life, nearing age 60, I have learned that to seek counseling for one's problems is perfectly OK, but there are many avenues preferable to psych. You just can't go around venerating the clothes, the tags; I admonish against buckling to shamanism. You can't venerate a group that has shrinks' history of toadyism, cronyism, pseudoscientologism, and just plain tyranny. What if anything distinguishes the psych corps from the dreaded "good old boy network"? Very little.

The whole world is crazy, jdnewell, what more can one say. Too many people who are in control of things are just plain dumb. I dont' even trust pilots anymore to take me safely from one place to another. I have seen how incompetent people can be, and it alarms me to no end.

A lot of folks I speak with, from all diverse walks of life, feel quite certain that a definitive conclusion to The Human Saga/Drama awaits us sometime between now and 2013. Much as I'd love to blame shrinks, I think not. It's more interesting to squarely blame all on ...Rupert Murdoch!

It doesn't bother me at having a label for depression etc.... it's just a diagnosis... diagnosis means treatment.

Of course, recording artist James Brown was known as the Godfather of Soul. Probably because he was that. Judging from his music I'd say his soul knew truly profound depths.

But show me a preppie kid who then gets buried into the cloistered life, closed-door institutions, always doing what he/she is told, kissing butt, ever venerating the demagogues who surround him/her, utterly stifled from questioning his/her "betters" -- and I'll show you a person whose soul is pretty much null and void. GET IT??

I'm not saying that shrinks are without conscience, NO!!

I'm only saying that their supposed qualification to defame the soul/persona of another, is delusion. Shrinks are well-trained to treat and care for the mentally ill, but they are UNable to distinguish who in the first place belongs in that category! Shrinks are never really trained or tested in making such key distinctions. No, I'll bet they are just shown into the tombs while some "superior" of theirs points with his baton, "There in cage #1 is a schizophrenic; there in cage #2 you see an agoraphobic; there in cage #3 we have an oppositional defiant; while there in cage #4 we find a control-domination responder", etcetera etcetera, ad nauseum.

And at the end of the semester, does the medical school have a way of testing the diagnosing skills of the budding shrink? Hell no! Is there any double-blind experiment ever performed to test the hypothesis of the shrink's evaluation against broader standards? Unh-uh.

So when you're hurting inside, don't run to the charlatan MD, just listen to some of the great oldies. But really listen

What sort of 'definitive conclusion' are they referring to? Are we just talking about a chance event like an asteroid hitting us? Anyway, I firmly believe that we are ever so slowly killing ourselves here. WE are a disgrace to this planet and we don't deserve to live here at all. The sooner we are all dead, the better.

But it isn't so tragic, as we all had a good good run.

It's the natural conclusion to our millenia-long striving to make a better world for our children. Now humanity is so advanced that most everything is automated and kids have no future whatsoever (and no, I don't count mere indentureship to The Charade itself, eg. dressing up in some dumb-ass costuming and making a fool of oneself to entertain and promote consumer products/services on TV or at live events).

Yea, WE WON! We made it to the finish line! Humanity has reached its logical conclusion.

And please Chucky, don't sweat the minutia of the actual demise. It won't hurt much. And NO, it won't be an asteroid doing us in, for that would perturb The Almighty's Plan. He intends to eliminate ONLY homo sapiens -- and no others.

The sooner Rupert Murdoch and his kind die, the better. That's all I'm going to say.

Hmm, I did mention the Asteroid but what was going through my head then was that only Homo sapiens would be emilimated (somehow). I'll be honest in saying that I hate mankind, including myself. I am 99.99% sure that the Earth would be MUCH MUCH better without us here.

Rupert Murdoch will never get a Christma card from me, but I can't blame him for being an astute businessman. Still, I reckon he's a big fat jerk.
