I disagree with you strongly. Firstly, being diagnosed with Bipolar or Schizoaffective disorder, etc does not mean that the patient's life has 'ended'. Secondly, medication is designed to merely assist people on the road to recovery, and is never intended to be taken over a lifetime. The problem is that patient's take medication with the view that it will magically take all of their problems away. When they notice that it doesn't do this, they feel as if they are making no progress.
To clarify: Medication is designed as an aid to a recovery. Most of the recovery work must be done by the patient's own willpower.
