A lot of psychologists suck at their job too. That doesn't mean they all do, though.
Would you want a job where people might lie to you and feed off of your own questions, misconstrue what you say, make things up and accuse you of things that you didn't actually do? You'd be pretty careful about what you say and ask until you get to know who you are working with, wouldn't you?
I'm not saying that is what happened. I don't know. I do know that some times to find out what people really expect, you can only watch them, because if you ask they will change their mind or hide what they are doing, and giving definitive statements might not always be the best thing even if it is what they are looking for because it also depends on why they are looking for it.
A psych's job is often to help people who don't even know what is wrong with themselves, and the psych has to often go to great lengths to find out, because if the client doesn't know, then who does? If it were an easy job then they wouldn't be needed because people would help themselves.
Just food for thought, I'm not saying that you are wrong or right.
Edit: I just noticed this is an old thread. My post still stands, though.
