I'm extremely tolerant to psychology, but I prefer stuff with a physical basis, but that's alright.
Furthermore, an astounding amount of psychologists I have spoken with (over 20 of them) have blatently stated that they only took psych class because it was an easy credit. I guess that is why I have been staying away from them lately, even though I need some kind of resolution. Psychology has always been hit-and-miss theoretical science, with some torture involved.
That being said, a huge benefit to psychology has emerged, gene research. I think that the days of psychology as a highly theoretical and highly tricky field are nearly over. I like genetics, mostly because I accidentally learned some real science behind diseases, no popping pills the rest of your life, real "be-all end-all" sort of studies.
I'd like to thank the skeptics, the hippies, the malpractice lawyers, the loved ones of patients who spoke out, the buddhist monks, the chinese remedies, the nutritionists, the physical fitness educators. The truth is, it isn't psychology's fault you were mis-treated for your illness, it is the individual doctor who got that easy degree, the person who sits on the easy chair and snores while you pour your heart out. Perhaps it is the institution's fault for having low standards for a decidedly under-developed profession.
So no, I am not anti-psychiatry after all, I am anti-corruption, I am anti-lazyness, I am pro-standards. Hopefully the person who listens to you has a plaque hung up on his/her wall stating from what university, date, and possibly contact information for verification of said plaque.
