I would like to comment about the huge profits made my drug companies. I retired at an eary age because I took money from a small inheritance and invested it. I studied many books on economics and investing. I became a tax consultant. Believe me, drug companies are making huge amounts of money off of selling people the belief that they do not have to ever be sad. Most recovering alcoholics, maybe close to all, are put on antidepresants in rehab. If you had screwed up your life as most as most alcoholics, you should be sad. Being sad will motivate a person to work a 12-step progam to change, so he does not have to ever use again. Covering up normal sadness will not motivate a person to work a program, finish college, or do other work to better himself.
If you looked at the mounds of research over the years, you would see that antidepresants are at best just a little better than a sugar pill. Other methods such as exercise and cognitive therapy have been proven to be just as good as antidepressants, but without the side effects.
There is no real evidence for a chemical imbalance in depression. The advertisements and the doctors say there is, but they have a lot to gain by making you believe that theory. Don't believe me, do some research. Try to read some studies that are not financed by the drug companies.
