You may be on to something. A mental health diagnosis can become a self-fulfilling prophecy , a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback between belief and behavior.

shrinks labels are accurate . 33% of patients may not be perfect .
but the bigotry , hostility , and greed of the people who take your insurance money will make you sicker.

The mental health diagnosis means a kind of weakness, a personal impair proclaimed by a med professional. That is really harmful for a patient. He or she becomes automatically stigmatised by society, by science, by culture. Being under such a strong pressure one can easily believe that he or she is sick and weak indeed.
In my not so humble opinion people must be leant to feel strong, happy and creative.
"I'm healthy, I'm strong, I'm living to develop and grow", in other words, the success-making becomes the self-fulfilling prophesy then.

PS. Power-lifting or any other kind of sport that one likes and which suits individual somatic conditions could become a good starting point to gain reasonable self-confidence.
