I saw that that Belsomra ad on TV using that old "may" correct brain chemicals scam, a pharma favorite. I just Googled Belsomra and first page results are calling them out.

Anyway this is what I wanted to share with psych forums, some of you may have seen me post this before but here goes.

Segmented sleep, also known as divided sleep, bimodal sleep pattern, bifurcated sleep, or interrupted sleep, is a primarily biphasic sleep pattern where two periods of nighttime sleep are punctuated by a period of wakefulness. Along with a nap (siesta) in the day, it has been argued that this is the natural pattern of human sleep. A case has been made that maintaining such a sleep pattern may be important in regulating stress.

Historian A. Roger Ekirch has argued that before the Industrial Revolution, segmented sleep was dominant in Western civilization. He draws evidence from documents from the ancient, medieval, and modern world.Other historians, such as Craig Koslofsky, have endorsed Ekirch's analysis.

Do this google search to find all of this http://www.google.com/search?q=the+myth+of+the+8+hour+sleep

Now you know wile most people still believe all that circadian rhythm bull $#%^ and will continue parroting it for a long time until maybe the 8 hour sleep myth finally dies.
I survived psychiatry.
