What meds made you anti-psych?

What medications ruined your life?

How/Why did you get off them.

Are you still on them or trying to get off them?

I have never met anyone who has gotten so bad side effects as myself.

let me for example tell you about abilify. From this I got severe brain damage, where I could not remember what I had to eat two hours ago. I slurred my speach and much more. Im still affected by it 3 years later. I have a court order for these meds, but even before then I was most often force to take medicines that areprue poison.

What are the people on this forums take on this? Is it really okay for psychiatry to severly injure patients like me, even if I was psychotic.

I'm sorry to hear that Mottec. I think I tried Abilify once and it made extremely agitated and couldn't sleep so stopped taking it.

For me depakote really did a number on me. Biggest being weight gain, and hair loss. Also tiredness. I was on that for years only 250 mg which was working alright. Then after my second episode they were making me take up to 1000 mg a day, which is absurd.

About 2 years ago they gave me haldol. Which, I would continue to take even though it caused some crazy uncontrollable tremors and made me very agitated at first. pdoc would say that it would get better over time. And also said I might have to live with the tremors forever. Complete BS. As soon as I got off it the tremors stopped.

I can't take any SSRIs as every one I've tried I can't sleep and I feel like I want to crawl out of my skin. Uncontrollable muscle spazms.

Right Now im on Lamictal 200mg, Saphris 10mg(anti-spychotic) Cogentin 2mg (for sideeffects) and ativan 5mg as needed.

I haven't had any side-effects from these that I can't deal with. Sometimes my eye twitches. If I try to sit still or meditate my legs will shake. Saphris makes me overtired, even though I only have to take it at night.

I'm hoping my p.a. will work with me to come off Saphris so I will only have to take lamictal.

f*** these anti-psychotics. I really think they do more harm then good. I know I don't need them. If you have an episode they throw them on you because they usually make you mindless and too tired to care about anything. These shouldn't be medications that Psychiatrists push on you to live on them forever. Only in the U.S. $$$

There's basically no long term studies done on these, so you really have no idea what they can do to your brain long-term..

I think this pill pushing attitude will become a thing of the past as scientists find better alternatives.
At least, I hope.

You know, your lucky that the side effects arent worse. Not that I dont think they are bothersome, just that you can get with the program.

I would try some CBT or therapy and probably tell your psychiatrist that youre making an effort.

I got to say, that life without pills make you able to enjoy more things, thats for sure. You might want to check out this site beyondmeds.com and see what you think.

edit: yes the US has the record by far for the most psychotropic drugs. Im not american, and I can say, that there ARE new movements like the hearing voices network and others, but its a long road ahead before pills are substituted with other measures.

Out of date anti-depressants....then again the psych who "prescribed" me them is an advocate for electric-shock therapy and has a poster that lists major and serious symptoms of schizophrenia as just being "mild depression". And by prescribed I mean swiped them off the drug trolley when no one was looking.

I just chucked them in the bin and didn't take them anymore. I only ever got the one set of tablets so it's not like I was getting a constant supply. And why did I go off them? Well they were out of date and after accidentally taking one thinking it was an Ibuprofen and I had this weird hallucination. After that I gave them up completely because I really don't need to see that guy in a chicken mask again.

I guess I should be glad it didn't affect me any worse, and funny thing is I wasn't actually depressed when I got given those tablets. I thought I was an isolated case but the NHS loves to pass off all sorts of mental illness as depression.

Have been on so many over the years none of them worked longer than a few months before dosages would need to be adjusted etc. None of the diagnosis truly fit and yet they all did! What started out as a simple detox...the idea being since I've been on meds for 20 years let's detox and then re-evaluate current symptoms to get a clearer picture of where to go next, changed my life. What I started to realize, after the initial month or two of pure hell which I now realize was my body and mind adjusting to itself without chemicals, is that while my brain my not be "neuro-typical" and I think and feel and view the world a little differently the chemicals, psych meds, had been making things much much worse. I am nowhere near cured if there is such a thing but I have come to believe that only I know what's wrong with me. I have changed my way of thinking. Instead of treating symptoms and side effects with medications, I focus on dealing with my traumatic past and modifying behaviors that are dangerous or inappropriate. now I just smile at the imaginary $#%^ laugh it off cz afterall...it's all in my head.

I forgot about some first generation antipsychotic I was given in the hospital named novaine, which gave me hypothermia. One of the worst experiences of my life.. Yes, you can get hypothermia from antipsychotics. Who would of thought?

What "meds" ?

Why do they use that word “meds?” Is it to ease our minds by conjuring up images of some benign cough syrup prescribed by a kindly family doctor? Nothing could be further from the truth.

I always use the term psychotropic drugs instead when I write about them.

Zyprexa and the way they treated me after I got sick from it, calling the withdrawal syndrome my "illness", made me anti psych.

They should all be in prison.

I survived psychiatry.

Is that what it's meant to do?

Whenever I hear the term "meds" I immediately think of a guy in a chicken mask and varsit jackety asking for my PIN number.
