Getting psychiatry/therapy the easy way

Postby LeOkAsPEr » Wed May 06, 2015 8:13 pm

Hello there disgruntled user of psych forums.

I'm pretty sure you're sick of how crap the psychiatry business is run nowadays right?

A society where drugs and anti-depressants are the answer to all of life's problems?

Sick of Pfizzer shoving their "all-purpose" medication down your throats?

Want to have a therapist/psychiatrist that will talk with you and not have you in an out of their office with 5 seconds and a bottle of drugs literally wedged in your oesophagus?

So was I.

Then I discovered the "cure-all" the NHS has stumbled upon:

ANTI-DEPRESSANTS!

Then I realised that the same psychiatrist telling me this also advocated the use of electro-shock therapy and using methods such as the tranquilliser chair. Oh and he's a firm believer in phrenology.

I'm not making this stuff up. And then I figured it was all a bunch of poppycock and chucked my opium pipe down the drain.

But I've stumbled upon a new way of getting good psychiatry/therapy really easily!

Become one!

Yeah that's right, you just need to become a registered and fully qualified psychiatrist/therapist and then take yourself up as a patient!

Now I know it sounds insane but have you got a better idea?

Because all I can think of is building Die sozialistische Weltrepbulik and that's not ever going to happen.

I wonder if there has ever been a psychiatrist with multiple personalities who attempted to treat one of their alters...

Well it would probably involve anti-depressants.

The NHS's answer to everything.

I understand where you are coming from LeO. I was the same way when I was feeling down and struggling. I needed more than just what meds could offer. I needed real help, with real understanding of what was happening inside. I am sorry that you are going through this. You don't deserve it.

I noticed you post a lot in DID. Going from personal experience Dissociative disorders, PTSD and other like disorders are very poorly understood by mainstream psychiatry, often misdiagnosed as other disorders, with few who have the knowledge to correctly treat them. And you have those that say they don't even exist   Such an experience can make anyone struggling with such have anti-psych views. I know that's what happened in my case.

The ignorance in psychiatry on how to treat disorders that require more than a bottle of pills is profound. Ditto for the resulting damage.

Perhaps you can ask for a psychologist, who will not prescribe but rather talk? Talk therapy helps a lot, I know in my case it made all the difference. I could open up, discuss what was bothering me which in turn took some weight off my shoulders.

Thanks, but I knew this was inevitable. I might not deserve it but many of us don't deserved what has been bestowed upon us. Sometimes we just have to keep going.

I hate it when people misdiagnose me. I got told the other day that depression is an umbrella term.

For every mental health disorder? Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

A psychologist in this country who won't prescribe? I can ask and I'll get told I'll see one who will talk to me but what will actually happen is they'll prescribe. The only way I can get one who won't prescribe is by looking for them and then making it look like I really need help. Or at least I'm not past my "repair by date".

I'm not going to find one, or at least not in this economy. Maybe when I'm in my 80s. I can't wait then. I'll just play scrabble for the next 34 years.

Do psychologist prescribe meds where you live? Where I live psychiatrists can prescribe meds, but not psychologists. If that's the case too then I would take a psychologist.

That's a really good point. Last time I checked they can't. But I know they would find a loophole. Like get a psych to put me on meds.

Technically you would not have to see a psychiatrist if you refuse. I think if you try and do talk therapy and do well he or she may not ever recommend a psychiatrist.

Really? Well I know that they'd find another loophole, they're better at finding them than Saul Goodman.

In fact, I don't even think I have a psychologist in my area.
