fighting against a recommitment

Postby tropisms » Fri Feb 27, 2015 12:19 pm

Hello there,

In December I was involuntarily committed for 90 days. I am doing fine and great now, yet this fraud of a psychiatrist told me that he was going to try to get me recommitted instead of letting the commitment expire. I am not mentally ill and was sleep deprived which first led to my stay at a mental hospital. I am in Indiana, what can I do to fight this if he tries to get me recommitted? What do I say to the Judge, do I get a lawyer?

You do get a lawyer .

They need to prove you are danger to self or others or will become so if you leave the hospital.

Mentally ill or not is not the real issue, danger is.

Don't get distracted or tricked into over doing the "I am not sick, the doctor is wrong" defense.

It's a trap.

I gives them evidence of what they call "lack of insight" and is used against you.

Maybe say I was very ill when I got here from sleep deprivation but I feel much better... I plan to continue with treatment so this never happens again.

If you want to have a little fun ask about the financial conflict of interest of the hospital that profits from keeping people involuntary also deciding who is sick and who is well.

Don't let anyone rush you.

Write down questions on paper first and show who ever is legally representing you.

And again there needs to be evidence of a danger , mental illness alone doesn't cut it.

You are still in the hospital right ?

You can try calling mind-freedom and ask them too http://www.mindfreedom.org/contact

They know better than me.
I survived psychiatry.

Good reply, Copy-Cat.

Once had a friend worked as a psych nurse.
He said "Tell them You think you can Cope now", as if its not gonna be too easy.
According to Maurie, that fits the "self-responsibility-keyhole" for the Let-em-Out pigeonhole.

Then I would leave anywhere that's full of normal americans, not just Indianna. [img][/img]
Paradox is where thinking gets most interesting.

Thanks Copy_Cat! :D

Psychiatry is one of those things that once you fall into the trap you keep getting pushed back in. Its engineered from within to be like that.
