forced injections

hi.. my names Zack and im new here after being diagnosed with with schizophrenia aged 24 im now on injections for the last 2 years with in the community after a hospital admission. I'm at the age of 36 now and i admit i was very sick before the depot injections started but being on these injection once a month has left me deeply depressed and have been given anti depression tablet as well.. the major side effects are my libido being effected to the point of not being able have an erection or have sex for the last 2 years on the 8th of January I'll be going onto oral medication arripripazole 20 mg and hope the negative symptoms will become less oppressive and i might begin to feel alive again I feel my treatment in hospital and in the community has left me like a zombie drugged up to the eyeballs with no thoughts or capability of holding a conversation any way someones at the door and im must go i hope this post will help any body else who is forced medication

Forced? Mostly this is decision of everyone to receive treatment or not.

Some people are put into psych wards because of court orders and other reasons. Not always, but sometimes, it is forced.

I just hope our demand for human rights has made a difference in how people are treated in those places.

The more people that get involved in the fight for human rights in mental health the better.

I have to agree. I don't know exactly what happened to the OP, but consent is key. Forced psychiatric treatment is rape IMO. It defiantly leaves that feeling of self violation behind.

Having systems to force injections on people back fires. Even where a case does exist, such a system is open to abuse where anyone can be forcefully injected. And abuse has always been happening.

Years ago hospitals had (and still do to some degree) the ability to forcefully commit ANY patient simply on the decision made by a psychiatrist. Insurance would pay no questions asked. No checks, no balances, no oversight, nothing. Its not a matter if abuse will take place... abuse will take place.

And it did and still does to this day.

From the Rosenhan experiment:

The study concluded "it is clear that we cannot distinguish the sane from the insane in psychiatric hospitals"

That is exactly what an unchecked system will do. And That abuse of power is no accident, because the finical incentive is so incredibly strong to do so.

Both the hospital make money from every patient stay as well as pharmaceuticals for every prescription filled. Without human rights both become a giant profit machine. This is the exact reason why it is so beneficial to profiteers to have everyone as sick as possible with no recovery.

Clearly if a system can declare a sane person insane without blinking an eye, everything else is self explanatory imo.

Human rights are essential in psychiatry for this exact reason. A sane person around insane people we be thought of as insane.
