The theory that "man is an ani-mal" with no soul, which is the, basis of psychiatry, was originally taught at Leipzig University, Germany, in the late 1 800s and then further promoted by
Pavlov, Freud and others
I shudder when I read that. I always makes me wonder where such a theory came from.

The irony is when you treat people as such, they do not get better or gravitate toward tame behaviorism, rather they began to exhibit the very symptoms they claim people have. Such theories help give rise to abusive psychiatry and the science of behavior modification that viewed mental illnesses as needing to be treated with punishment. B.F. Skinner and others further built upon such notions.
To the OP, IMO, I am glad you have recognized this

If a patient is being helped by God or Religion, psychiatry should certainly be respect of this.
IMO, I think one of the keys to recovery is finding something that you believe in. Something that you have faith in, something you can trust, learn from and feel good about.
Just as a friendly reminder to others in this thread, lets try and keep the subject on anti-psych/bettering psychiatry rather than having this become a religious debate. I know this is a very dynamic topic. Speaking from a neutral place everyone is different, with different views, beliefs, feelings and so forth. Lets be respectful of that.
Thanks
