Wilderness adventures vs psychiatric treatment

A federal study of "boot camps" and wilderness programs for troubled children has found evidence of hundreds, if not thousands, of allegations of death and physical, sexual and emotional abuse.

But does that mean the wilderness and the whole nature thing is a bad idea cause of those stories , l don't think so.

I think the woods and mountains is a great place to go if your depressed , anxious , restless "manic" like all the labelled conditions.

I spent over 25 days in a place that did absolutely zero good.

25 days below would have got my anxiety down and myself regrouped.

It would all have to depend on the terrain. Sometimes people who are manic think they have special powers. Could you imagine having a group of people in that state and trying to keep them all from "flying" off the trees? I somehow don't see that ending well...

But for the overall calming and holistic nature of the woods, I'm totally with you on that :)

Can you imagine how fun it would be to be in that state flying off into the trees ? Most people you see doing extreme sports are manic, "Normal" people don't go base jumping or mountain climbing on the high peaks.

I was also trying to get at the idea that the worried well just need a vacation instead of spending there money on anti depressants and sleeping pills. But since insurance makes these pills "free" that's what people do.

Yes, I too would definitely like to see a decrease in the amount of pills that are prescribed and that they are only used in more serious situations though I know the definition of "serious" can be swayed easily (as it is already is)

Well said, those "extreme sports" retards are nothing but adrenaline junkies.
