Zyprexa - metabolic damage

Postby By_Tides_ofRapture7 » Sat Apr 12, 2014 5:41 am

Hey guys, I took Zyprexa for 9 years and gained 70 pounds. I worked out every day and dieted but still gained weight. It seemed to get worse the longer I was on. After a withdrawal period worse than heroin, I was finally able to quit the Zyprexa.

I've been off for a month now and kicked up the cardio to really try to burn some fat. I started running 2-5 miles a day every day, and also doing weights like usual. I thought for sure I would lose at least 25 pounds in a month. But somehow, I've barely lost any weight at all.

I'd like to hear from other people who have quit an antipsychotic and lost weight. Is it possible they cause permanent metabolic syndrome? How long did it take you to lose all the weight? I'd really appreciate some kind of info

When I was young, I was on a lot of psychiatric medications which caused me to gain a lot of weight. It took me several periods in my life to lose it all, and then keep it off. For example, I would work SUPER hard (low calories plus approx 2 hours of intense exercise, 5-6 days a week) for a few months to lose 20-30lbs at a time. I wasn't able to sustain this intense amount of exercise for long periods so I would stop for a while and then go back to it to lose the next 20-30 lbs and so on until I was at a healthy weight. Have you thought about seeing a nutritionist to add that piece into your weight loss? I also find that food and exercise trackers on my cell phone are really helpful in tracking calories in and calories burned.

long story short, yes I was able to lose almost 100lbs from all those psych meds.

Hey Cheze, thanks for responding. I've been doing the same thing with the exercise and dieting, but I hurt my foot joint from running too much so I can't really run any more without pain. I'm hoping it gets better soon but I haven't been able to run for almost a week. I have my diet pretty much perfect, it's just the problem with the metabolism. My body is running literally 10 times slower than it used to :( The Zyprexa really did some damage

Zyprexa seemed to damage my appetite, like the natural hunger I had before ever taking it never fully came back. I was on lots of "meds" for too long.

That artificial hunger rebounded in the other direction when I quit taking the stuff and in the beginning and during the months and months of withdrawal I did not want to eat at all , thought maybe I would starve to death from lack of hunger.

I hope doctors aren't prescribing Olanzapine as recklessly as they used to, its dangerous $#%^.

Prison?

In Maoist China, they would round up drug peddlers, take them to the town square and perform public executions to make an example out of them. I think that would be an appropriate action against big pharma.

Thing is modern day China is not the former Maoist China.

You think Mao would have allowed big corps like Mcdonalds into his country? Whats going on today is totalitarian capitalism in full effect. It seems to be working for them though, since your average Chinese citizen is very naïve and gullable and seem to believe more what their system tells them then the average American. I will tell you this, I would not want a war with China, they have hundreds of millions of troops, something that scares me.

I went to the E.R the second time with Zyprexa withdrawal and was admitted to psychiatric. I pushed for answers as to why was I having this nausea and vomiting. WHY ? I wanted to see the gastroenterologist but of course since I was a psych patient my medical problems were ignored. And this was a 'nice' hospital.

Does anyone know why that nausea vomiting happens ? If so add it to the thread please
