Ohh another believer.
Copy Cat is right, SSRIs tend to have an upper effect while olanzapine is a downer.
Hence the gas and brake analogy.
I agree his doctor is a nincompoop

Again, no, these aren't uppers and downers and this isn't a gas-brake thing. These medications affect different symptoms.

Many people with schizophrenia find this combination very useful. Others prefer other combination. Study pharmacology, I think it will help you understand these medications. Not a good idea to say someone's doc is a nincompoop without having the knowledge of what the medications do or what has worked for many people. And dangerous and irresponsible toward the individual, and disrespectful of their rights, to try to talk them into going off their medication.

I took the stuff, I know very well what they "do" as well as anyone, if you read the fine print on all these drugs you will read "mechanism of action is unknown".

http://www.google.com/search?q=olanzapine+mechanism+of+action+is+unknown

http://www.google.com/search?q=zoloft+"mechanism+of+action+is+unknown"

http://www.google.com/search?q=effexor+"mechanism+of+action+is+unknown"

http://www.google.com/search?q=trazadone+"mechanism+of+action+is+unknown"

Psychiatrists can’t predict what adverse side effects you might experience because not one of them knows how their drugs work. That's what "unknown" means.

What "right" are you taking about ?

I know about the mental patients current "right" to be denied informed consent and lied to along with the right to be locked up and drugged against their will without due process of law with form of recourse whatsoever. That I learned about when I went to the hospital for "help" after a reckless doctor gave me "Olanzapine" and "forgot" to mention that if I didn't like the effects I 'might' get withdrawal reactions from the center of hell and find myself in the hospital.
I survived psychiatry.

cheze this is a good suggestion.

i feel like what bothers me the most is some sort of cognitive decline (memory, thinking speed, rational thinking related) and this inability to be aware of what i do or say, and the things around me, details, the colour of life. i was thinking maybe its brain fog. i feel like i have this automatic tendency to go in my head.

You have only been doing the med thing for 5 weeks ?

cognitive decline memory, thinking speed, lack of colour of life brain fog...

That all sounds like the effects Olanzapine had on me, what does everyone else think ?

smithy,
I understand that this type of language would be appropriate for other parts of the forum, however this is the anti-psych forum and the discussion that is being had here is appropriate. No one has told this individual to go off of their medication. They have shared their experiences with it, which have been negative. They have the knowledge of that this medication has done for them from personal experience. This person has a right to try whatever method they find most helpful to feel better. They stated in the beginning that this medication was not helping at this time.

p0ci, let's be respectful. We don't know what medications, if any smithy has tried either.

Hey, I am totally pro-med, and I agree the doctor is a nincompoop if the same doctor prescribed all that. I strongly advise getting a second doctor's opinion. At the very least, talk to your pharmacist.
