Are you getting enough salt?

Postby marlowgs » Fri Jul 07, 2006 11:28 am

Over the past 5 years I've been diagnosed by 6 psychiatrists as having bipolar disorder. Not one bothered to do a blood test upon my hospitalization. I've recently discovered that I was afflicted by a condition called hyponatremia (low sodium). With all this talk from the self proclaimed experts telling us to eat less salt and drink more water I ended up with a dangerously low blood sodium level. Under these conditions the brain swells and the pressure can cause psychiatric symptoms. My symptoms included anxiety, panic attacks, psychosis, and seizures. I read a Japanese study that said 10% of psych patients suffered from hyponatremia and that is in a country that has a notoriously high salt diety. My advice is to be skeptical of your psychiatric diagnosis and try to find the true origin of your illness.

wow- that makes me think twice!

"My advice is to be skeptical of your psychiatric diagnosis and try to find the true origin of your illness."

i'm trying to get that but holy $#%^ it's tough when these so called experts like you say are so keen to drug you up and never do the basic investigations.

i sometimes feel like a rat in a lab- forced to perform tricks against my will.

a good point
lack of salt can cause many problems including cronic fatigue
its also a good idea to take a daily vitamin and mineral tablet in case you are missing anything

Well well, just goes to show doesnt it.Psychiatrists and theyre phoney diagnosis's.Your lucky they didnt have you pinned to the operating table, thankfully you found the cause.

Sodium if I remember right needs to be something like 2000mgs per 4 glasses of water? But thats just from memory-anyone know the correct dose?Caffeine is bad.And natural seasalt is best. This is grey and clumpy, and it even contains minute measures of lithium and other trace minerals which are essential to human health, and mental health. That salt is available from a natural food store.Apparently table salt contains things to make it flow better ect, which can dehydrate the body too much.

(ever wonder why surfies are so cool, probably because they swallow lots of sea salt!)ha

And on a natural seasalt water diet normal table salt needs to be eliminated.

Natural seasalt and water cured my asthma. But I stopped useing it due to lazyness.(easier to get the salt in the grocery shop)(asthma is back)

And you need to watch you are getting enougth pottasium too, weather you use table or natural. That is important.

Theres alot written about salt and mental health, especially seasalt. Its interesting stuff.

It's hard to give clinicians the benefit of the doubt when they ruin so many lives. Just keep in mind the history of psychology and the way that people act when they are given a status when they read a bunch of books without understanding the reality of it all.
The truth is that there is a problem that exists with psychiatry. Although it may be hard for a psychiatrist to differentiate illness and symptoms, the fact remains that it will happen to someone again...

:) I pour an unnatural amount of salt on everything. Perhaps I will become a prune one day, but I won't be a bipolar prune!
