Hi all. I was in a psychiatric hospital last week where they started me on 25 mg Lamictal, 600 mg Lithium, and 80 mg Geodon despite the fact that all I wanted was emotional help not chemical help. I was on these meds for about 5 days and told the nurses and doctors my side effects and they told me I was just anxious about being in a hospital and tried to give me anti-anxiety meds. I KNEW it was #######4 so as soon as I got out of the hospital this past Friday, I stopped all of these meds. I did not want to risk tapering because my side effects were very severe and made my heart beat irregularly. My family is fully supporting me.
As of right now, day 4 off the medication I was only on for a week, I am restless and irritable but at least I feel like myself again. I wonder though if anyone has had a similar experience with short-term drugging and if the withdrawal is fairly fast since I was not on these drugs long.

Hi Livvy,
I'm sorry to hear that you had such a negative experience with the inpatient admission. It's definitely difficult when the people who are supposed to care for you don't listen. In regards to your medication question, everyone responds differently to medication withdrawal. I would recommend contacting your doctor to ensure that you discontinue the medication safely, as withdrawal effects can be severe if not done properly.
I'm glad that your family is supportive and that while the hospital may not have been listening at least your have them to rely on for support through this difficult time.

Did you go to the mental hospital on your own free will or against your will?

I saw posted about drinking in the other forum, you could mabey try substance/alcohol abuse treatment where you get emotional help rather than straight inpatient psych that's usually just those pills.
I survived psychiatry.
