anosognosia

I was just reading about this so called phenomenon, anosognosia, which means 'lack of insight', on dr e fuller torreys treatment advocacy centre website, he takes on the anti psychiatry stance that anti psychiatrists are 'wrong' about lack of insight because apparently he has a study which proves schizophrenics who have 'never' been treated with anti psychotics have different brain scan images than normal ppl. I've heard about such studies and that they are invalid because the so called schizophrenics have always been treated with neuroleptics before commencing the study and that's the result of the brain shrinkage, in fact on mindfreedoms website they say they now have proof that anti psychotics 'cause' shrinkage. I would like to see these stupdies that torrey talks about, out of interest, id like to know what the truth is. Mabye I should email him and ask for a copy of the actual study, im pretty sure hes full of s###, hes a fascist anyway.

Anosognosia ? Do you mean the condition where people who have never ever taken psychiatric drugs and felt the effects on there own mind and body accuse other people who have taken them and didn't like those effects of 'lacking insight' ?

A disorder that is total BS. Once used to describe what was probably nothing more than severe denial or the withdrawn appearance/effects of a stroke but now I guess it could be used to describe those who know psychiatry is a scam.

Love the saying, "Oh, you have schizophrenia but your just in denial" Then on the papers they wright behind your back your in denial about you illness.

BTW, did someone say you have this?

No one said I had 'anosognosia' but psychiatrists have said I 'lacked insight' when I first encountered psychiatry, I told them I didn't like the medication and I thought I was experiencing trauma , not mental illness, then they said that was wrong and I lacked insight into my illness, in the latter years I usually can see a question like this coming like 'what do u think u have'? oh definately schizophrenia, I said things like that and it got me off a CTO much quicker! stupid idiots, u could say anything they just want to have more power than you.
Yes I agree its a totally BS condition, theyre saying ppl with stroke and dementia have it too. Id like to see the actual 'scientific evidence' that this condition exists apart from saying schizophrenics brains are smaller (and this is from anti psychotic drugs).
I saw a link on the mindfreedom page against this guy torrey, and looked up his web page on google, hes a total fascist loser, wants more laws more control over having outpatient therapy and drugging up more ppl, also on his page he mentions like 1 million times that mi ppl are violent and need to be medicated. What load of c#$###!

what I forgot to say, is that its a total catch -22! that's not fair! If u don't like the affects of the drugs then u lack insight! of if u don't believe u have a 'disease' then it proves u are schizophrenic, because schizophrenics lack insight into their own 'illness'! This makes me so angry. How do u explain this is so wrong to ppl?

Well put and Im sorry you had to go through that. Lacking insight is something that nearly all psychiatrists will and do say when one questions their diagnosis. I know that probably the best, but who knows, Im sure others one here might even more. I had one quack who would repeatedly point out how he had a medical degree and I didnt. Funny thing if I was flaunting my academic achievements I can guarantee I wouldve walked out with a boat load of psyco-sexual diagnosis LOL.

The trauma or your past is not something they want to hear about either, its easier that way for them. But more often than not the patient is right or on the right track as to what is bothering them. And you will not find much real scientific evidence to back up the claims those guys make or the anosognosia being real. Every diagnosis in psychiatry is made on the relative observations, so yahh go figure. And the claims up above boil my blood to; mentally ill are more likely to be the victims of violence than and abuse than take part in it, I know this first hand.

In my opinion you shouldn't be even asking yourself "do I have this" because obviously they have taken your suggestibility and turned it into a weapon of self prosecution. Just saying, but keep posting your feelings on the anti-psych forum, they are good!
