Psychiatry's hypomania scam

Postby Copy_Cat » Fri Jul 19, 2013 8:20 pm

What a joke , they call peoples behavior a disease that "needs" treatment like diabetes or cancer.

The DSM based definition,

Hypomania is a mood state characterized by persistent and pervasive elevated (euphoric) or extreme happiness which is sometimes followed by an irritable mood, as well as thoughts and behaviors that are consistent with such a mood state.. Many who are in a hypomanic state are extremely energetic, talkative, confident, and assertive. They may have a flight of ideas and feel creative. Many people also experience signature hypersexuality. While hypomania often generates productivity and creativity, it can become "troublesome" if the subject engages in "risky" behaviors.

Disease mongering is the practice of widening the diagnostic boundaries of an illnesses or making one up, and promoting public awareness of such, in order to expand the markets for those who sell and deliver treatments including most often pharmaceutical companies and psychiatry....

Is that text an edited version of the wikipedia entry? Or is it from somewhere else?

Just to clarify, do you believe in old-school manic-depression? Was that a scam, or was that genuine? (I think before you implied you believed in that one, but I could be wrong. I don't want to misrepresent you). The same with mania, I guess. Is mania a scam?

I think it's totally relevant. You said, earlier:

If you think mania is real, but hypomania is a "widened" version of it, then that's one argument. If you think all of psychiatry, and all diagnoses, are a myth (like Szasz), and hence mania (and hypomania) is "made up", then that's a different argument.

Of course hypermania is #######4, its not a 'sickness' or 'disease', its probably a state most ppl get in from time to time, so therefore its disease mongering.

Mania and manic depression are not sicknesses or diseases either, although in some ppl they may cause problems for the person, does not mean they are sick.

BTW can u believe the new one pms disorder (cant remember the exact acronym), that says womens sensitivity before her menstruation is a ######6 disease and needs to be medicated?!!!! Sexist #######4 disease mongering.

None of this stuff is legit. If a persons behavior can change it is not a mental illness. The people that can not change there behaviors are the truly mentally ill.
