The DSM-5 is the Atheist's Moral Code, the psychiatrist's Bible . 6 minutes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10ZVZbm9e7c

I like it with the exception of the ref to panic disorder. - .25

Ref to "hypomania" behavior would have been better as its a top psych scam diagnosis.

My rating 3.75 stars out of 4

What makes hypomania such a scam?

(I'm talking about 'official' hypomania, not some cartoon version).

Have you ever experienced 'official' hypomania? If you have, why do you think it's a scam? If you haven't, why are you so confident it's a scam?

You have "real" mania that's far out there and then you have the "Hypomania" scam.

Hypomania is an unacceptable to psychiatry, a mood state characterized by persistent and pervasive elevated (euphoric) or "unacceptable" extreme happiness which is sometimes followed by an "unacceptable" irritable mood, as well as unacceptable thoughts and behaviors that are consistent with such a mood state. It is most often associated with the bipolar spectrum. Many who are in a hypomanic state are extremely energetic, talkative, confident, and assertive. They may have a flight of ideas and feel creative. Many people also experience signature hypersexuality. While hypomania often generates productivity and creativity, it can become troublesome if the subject engages in "risky" behaviors .

I like that feeling and don't need anyone telling me my behavior or thoughts are a "disease" that "NEED" treatment with psychiatry's pills.

Here is the three year old article concerning the bipolar scam which even though the number are small compared to the current bipolar scam number it will give you an accurate idea of how the bipolar scam is growing in leaps and bounds:

I'll come back on hypomania.

Re: videos. What's your policy when you post a video?

Are you endorsing (a) all the content (b) the makers of the video (c) any organisations associated with the makers? [I haven't looked at the particular one you linked to yet].

Agreed, it's an open discussion, and I would say it's worth discussing which part of the broad spectrum of anti-psych opinions and organisations the videos that you post come from. (informed consent, and all that. It's good to know whose works you are promoting).

If I posted a NAMI video, I'm sure you would want to say something about NAMI, as well as the video.

This video is coming from a very bible-based church, with some very conservative opinions (e.g. wives must be submissive to husbands), and they believe humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time. They say "Modern Biopsychiatry is as anti-Christian, dangerous and satanic as evolution"

Regarding mental illness, they say "Psychiatry, psychotherapy or professional counseling won't help." If you're wondering what's wrong with psychotherapy or counselling, well: " First, their methods and foundational theories are based upon evolution, atheism, junk pop social science".

They believe the cause of all mental illness is sin.

They believe in withdrawing welfare from those with a mental illness. "Some of them would die of starvation, kill themselves or whatever, but at least they are taking personal responsibility for themselves and making choices."

Copy_Cat, are you sure you want to be promoting this church?

If you agree with all the above, and those are your own religious convictions about mental illness, then ... then I think I see some interesting debates ahead. If you don't agree with them, is it really worth promoting their vids?

Oh, and the titles of the video take 12 seconds. The first error occurs at the 13th second. The book she is holding is not DSM5, although the title of the video (and the caption) say its about DSM5.

If you want to stand by the video, and the church, and its teachings on mental illness, I'll watch the rest of it. But seriously, you want to promote this lot?

If a church claims (a) mental illness is solely caused by sin, (b) psychiatry, psychotherapy and counselling won't help, (c) it doesn't matter if the mentally ill starve to death or kill themselves then I reserve the right to challenge those opinions.

If those three things are also your opinions, then I'll be interested to debate them.

0.19 seconds: "this book" (except it's not DSM5, but there you go) is classifying mental disorders "based on standards of behaviour".

which means (somehow) it is a

0.58 "a moral code".

The "standards of behaviour" seems to miss out huge chunks of relevant domains like cognition, mood etc.

I still don't get how magically that turns into a "moral code". If you can explain that one to me, then I'll try and understand the logic.

And, to be honest, I'm not sure I entirely trust this church's own moral code, if they don't care if service users kill themselves or starve to death.
