The pseudo-science of psychiatry has dovetailed its wallet neatly into the Prohibition complex, by allowing companies like Pfeizer to push their ineffective and dangerous drugs on a population which is prevented by thugs with guns from obtaining low-cost, actually effective chemical supplements to deal with their moods. While severe dependence (which, by the way, is also an OPINION ABOUT CHOICES, not a MEDICAL FACT) might be detrimental to some people, the effect of preventing those suffering physically and emotionally from obtaining much safer and more effective chemical supplements, or putting a huge stigma on its users - whether it be marijuana, LSD or Mescaline. Mescaline causes 'ego-death', and it is 100% effective in human beings, unlike meditation, which only rarely and weakly replicates its effects (usually be people who are starving themselves, etc. so as to auto-generate entheogenic states). I am not suggesting that any of these will 'cure' you, but simply that like a glass of alcohol after a hard day at work, they may positively help peoples' emotional balance and psychological development.
It is well known that the 'point' of prohibition is dual: an excuse for the expansion of and cash-infusion to the police state, and to prevent competition. The AMA is much the same thing for the medical industry, requiring 12 years of school to treat a common cold, and it's no surprise that the AMA are big supporters of prohibition: they and their members receive big direct and indirect benefits from the prescription drug industry while foreclosing alternative and possibly more effective treatments.
Their reasons for doing so are the same as the psychiatrist's self-righteous sadism: paternalistic, moralizing #######4.
But, hey, what's rampant global crime and easy finance for terrorism compared to making Doctor No a few bucks? After all, he can get all the drugs he wants!
