This is a similar thread that was made in the bipolar forum. I thought you might be interested.

TRIGGER WARNING as some people may find that reading these things makes them very upset, particularly from an antipsych perspective.

I was told "Zyprexa makes you smarter" and all this stuff about what "they" saw in mouse brains after they took it.

I was still interested in everything about psychopharmacology and was like "oh realy" and it helps with sleep and anxiety too ?

Having never suffered from any form of psychosis or mania, I was told by a psychiatrist, that because I had Borderline Personality Disorder that if I ever smoked Marijuana I definitely would go psychotic lol been smoking it on and off for years now (including very heavily at various times), and I can assure you I am not and have never been psychotic. Indeed I am actually quite calm, friendly and in a state of good humor when "stoned", I think I am more in tune with the real world than was my psychiatrist.

I have also been told by a psychiatrist that they knew of marijuana smokers that were so slow they from Marijuana usage they paused for 10 seconds between each and every word they said.

I have heard many stupid things. And I mean many

"you arent smart enough nor trained like me to be trying to figure out your own problems, thats why I'm hear"

"Medication can cure mental illness" "I know whats best for you" ''I understand you better than anyone else including yourself"

"your claiming that your early childhood still effects you to this day, Im not sure that is possible because the brain rewires itself over the years"

"Children dont get PTSD, that is a disorder among war veterans and some adults" "Childhood trauma is easily forgotten" "Some get PTSD and others dont because not everyone knows how to let go of memories...those tend to be people who cant let go of much to begin with"

"your claiming the ativan is making you very dizzy, we can try upping the dose and see if that helps"

"SSRIs have never been proven dangerous" "SSRIs like all other medications might give a few negative side effects to a small minority of people" "Most people prescribed SSRIs feel like a new person"

"If the the medication is making you hyper I can prescribe Ativan since last time you took you had exclaimed to me it made you very drowsy"

"I think if you find other people who also are struggling with anger management that will be of help to you"

"You cant diagnose yourself" "You cant medicate yourself"

Had one therapist, every time I mentioned the words depressed, sad, hopeless, not feeling it ect: "Are you suicidal" "Are you going to kill yourself" "do have any plans about ending your life"

"You got cut cooking?! Was it intentional?! 'No' I think that may have been a sub conscience response manifesting itself from self hatred. We need to immediately address this issue" :o

"So you have PTSD, what did you find so traumatic?"

"Do you masturbate?" "Can you please describe to me what you think about while you masturbate?" "how do you masturbate?" "talking about masturbation and sex life is essential to psychotherapy"

"When you masturbate do any of the fantasies involve blood, gore or bodies, you know its quite normal for some people to have these in there fantasies while they are masturbating" Surprisingly this one was on my 2nd visit to a shrink and it came out of nowhere. Talk about a sick therapist LOL

"Not everything everyone wants to accomplish is for them" "you will never be happy trying to be happy"

"You seem very nervous, there is nothing in here to make one nervous, are you aware that sometimes you might have some trouble controlling how you feel?"

"you have unrealistic expectations of our world, it will never be a perfect place" "there is no such thing as perfect"

"you seem intolerant of a lot of stuff I do" "whos the patient and who the psychiatrist?"

"OK look, you cant tell me how to do my job and you dont know everything about yourself, do understand?"

"I dont see you going far in life with your depression"

More is coming to me, I will update this when I can.

...I'm so sorry Riccola. I really hope that you are able to get as far away from these types of people as possible.

I really appreciate it. Thanks for seeing it as not right as well :)

I can assure you I no longer see these docs anymore, a few of them were 2 time visits for a reason. They certainly didn't help me at all.

The psychiatrist I see now is totally chill and very respectful. I really appreciate him because he is not like the some of the others Ive met. Plus hes really smart too :D .
