Cult deprogramming as related to psychiatry

Postby Copy_Cat » Sun Apr 07, 2013 2:08 am

Murray’s paper draws parallels between cult indoctrination and PPIC techniques and notes the similarities between cult members and mental health consumers who are vulnerable to losing their identities to the PPIC. (The Psychopharmaceutical Industrial Complex)

The PPIC and “its adherence to the disease model pervades mainstream culture and greatly impacts psychotherapy,” he says. “Consequently, the effects of the PPIC may have resulted in some psychiatric consumers adopting disease-model messages in ways similar to cult indoctrination.”

“Consumer adoption of the disease model can create obstacles to treatment when hope is fundamental,” he advises.

Murray says his most difficult cases “involve clients who have in essence been drawn into the PPIC and have become resigned to the disease model with little sense of empowerment to overcome their emotional problems.”

“These are the consumers who have little self-efficacy and little hope that they have options other than to suffer,” he reports.

Psychiatric "Cult" indoctrination.

The psychiatric "cult" uses countless techniques (lies and half truths) to get its members to stay, commit themselves and take part in what may be harmful activities(drug taking). The sum of these techniques constitutes what some people call "mind control." It's also known as "thought reform," "brainwashing" and "coercive persuasion," and it involves the systematic breakdown of a person's sense of self. "You are (psych label goes here) "

"Mind control" is a little heavy , lets just say relentless marketing with lies to describe psychiatry.

"When you deprogram people, you force them to think...But keep them off balance and this forces them to begin questioning, to open their minds. When the mind gets to a certain point, they can see through all the lies that they've been programmed to believe. They realize that they've been duped and they come out of it. Their minds start working again...

Did you get any tests to confirm your diagnosis ?

Did you get your seratonin tested ?

Why do they always write "may" and "linked to" instead of "caused by" or "as the result of" in studies ?

That technique may be more effective than just shouting ITS ALL A BIG SCAM !

good way to describe psycho-education and simply dealing with clinicians who constantly trying to indoctrinate you into the model patient and believe in them, believe in the lies about yourself.

This can be dangerous if ever experience the transliminal phase of psychosis and expanse in consciousness to vicarious territory, self affirmations that it means you are mentally ill from past experience, more so for me this state stirs reflection on past times family have jacked me up to a psychiatrist for an opiate, they are better now but still my life has been ruined by psychiatry, well worrying about that and wanting revenge or to fix my life led to stress and sleep deprivation and deterioration anyway even though I didn't fear I had a brain problem indicating I need drugs at that point in time but just stirred up all the other times and the consequence was fantasising about divorcing my parents for what they did to me in the past when all i needed was guidance and nurturing for all the potentials I had not to be ruined by psychiatry.

the cult gets into family and perceptions of even esoteric communities when you are reduced to psych patient they treat you different when this is all life is about this cult.

This is registering for me and will use it to define insight to mental illness and refusing to go along with their treatment, because its a cult and they are indoctrinating me into a very shallow position and labeling so deeply in how I see myself and relationship with my mind...I think this only actually leads to more mental illness by self-fulfilling prophecy................

psychiatry is a cult more then a religion or even medicine, if it was medicine how could it exist as consensual agreement over what the illness's are and what symptoms they have. more importantly the drug industries need interest in it if it is to become a mental disorder.

I read somewhere that mental illness are to be referred to as neurobiological illness, what a crock of $#%^, they have no evidence that it is a neurobiological illness.

and the drugs don't work for people who hear voices, how many still hear voices or the drugs actually make them worse, maybe I'm mislead but there is no evidence the drugs actually work for schizophrenia other then making one passive and agreeable to be indoctrinated into believing they are mentally ill and need the drugs to stay passive and free of thought and emotion, just voices and none of your own mind.

Its so hard to describe what is going on on the outskirts of this cult! like how do you describe what they are actually doing for me other then gallivanting around sprouting off the #######4 from their education and impression of mental illness's they've been indoctrinated into the cult and are the leaders and chosen to degrade their clients into the ideal functioning of the mind to accept they have a mental illness despite contrary evidence and knowing that psychiatry is a crock of $#%^.

I notice they have pretty round about anwers, that can be flipped two mean or indicate completely oppisit things, they also seem to use other language misleading and manipulation, even to break laws regarding to courts intentionly like to mislead judges. I notice the pychtrists, and pycholgosist seem as prediters to jump anytime, they have you with a simple confusion of something you know, they think there master politions as in people who are all talk and can attack by pen. They think there the same thing but doctor.

NAMI is a good example of it being a cult....I guess in australia the clinicians learn from them and often push to involve family in my care but luckily they live 6hours away and I want no part of them being involved I'm an adult but reduced to a patient that needs carers or something. They ignore that I value my independence from ties with anybody, prefer to be solitary but the solitary can make me deviate from normal functioning.

I think they getting to me with this one, I got good insight anyway if I had human contact more and not from worrying types like family I would stay firmly attached to reality. quacks mock me for it saying its some persecutory delusion or something like everything else.

lol psycho-education, educated on how to make your loved ones psycho, and for the psycho education on how you are psycho and you need medication because your psycho..

they educate the whole population, everyone is in on the brain chemical imbalance theory of mental illness and psychiatrists are legititamiate business.

Brainwashing is a serious and very real thing. All of us have been or are currently brainwashed. There are only those who know and those who do not.

As this brainwashing applies to medications in particular. It is easy to believe that since we experienced instability, that we are flawed in some way, perhapse genetically. The truth is that the vast majority of instability is caused by thoughts and actions that we take in response to illusions. Thus, the simplest way to recover without meds is to realize what illusions are. Once this is realized, anyone will be in the position to refuse to respond to them. Otherwise, mentally ill people are constantly at risk of relapse.

I honestly do not believe that many doctors know this truth. They are not all sick bastards who prey on people at their lowest point to pull a profit.

Actually something i noted was in mental hospitals how the nurses repeatedly shine lights into your eyes while sleeping for "checking", which interestingly is an actual cult indoctrination process, it induces a state of sleeplessness and trance making one easier to manipulate.

It's sad how they also coerce confused people into ingesting medicine by referring the the dissolvable forms as "wafers", giving a religious association, and the medication room is right next to the food place, to give the impression of "dessert".

Of course the whole pan opticon lay-out is horribly uncool, designed to give a sense of powerlessness and that your always being watched.

They really don't like if you hang out in the center either (especially reading the newspaper on the front desk with a cup of tea) ;)

Overall I dont think the cult analogy is terrible off, there is a heck of a lot about "mental health services" that when not being outright forceful are being manipulative.

I hear ya on the "cult" ideas here, but I think its equally helpful to consider a quote from Szasz's article "The myth of mental illness: 50 years later" :

"Fifty years ago, it made sense to assert that mental illnesses are not diseases. It makes no sense to do so today. Debate about what counts as mental illness has been replaced by political-judicial decrees and economic criteria: old diseases such as homosexuality disappear, whereas new diseases such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder appear."

Emphasis here on "political-judicial" and "economic" since money and law are alarmingly connected.

Another major problem is the merger between psychiatry and government, which is shockingly similar to when church and government were merged a long time ago.
