In addition to the aformentioned hypnosis and healthy diet and exercise, I would add:
1) meditation - both calming/focusing mindfullness types, and also transendental self-discovery types.
2) true friendship (not aquaintences) - this helps a ton for getting real feedback and dishing it too. In therapy, all the "help" is one-sided so things never seem balanced.
3) vitamin/enzyme supplements - must use with a seriously knowlegable doctor and regular blood/hair testing to get the necessary feedback to get the supplements right. This is not typically a "homeopathic/naturopathic doctor" - I went to a few and they didn't know what they were doing.
4) weight training - not just the typical workouts that most people do. Serious weight training that focuses on power. I found that squat, bench press, deadlift, overhead press, and power cleans do the best for my mental health. Very few people do this so I doubt that there are statistics on powerlifting and mental health.
5) psychedelic substances - several exist, but from what I can tell iboga, DMT, and mescaline are some of the most prominant. They help people gain perspectives that they can use later to improve their mental health. Shamans have been using this alternative treatment for a long time.
