The problem with psychiatrists is they've been taught to rely on drugs for treatment, so it's all they can do. They have invested their whole identity, professional & personal self-esteem, and sense of purpose in life in the idea that drugs are effective, useful and good. I think the majority of these people are psychologically incapable of even perceiving the truth no matter what, due to that reason alone.

I suppose deep within they must have doubts but on the level of conscious thought such doubts are quickly dismissed as incompatible with who they are. They've been taught to see themselves as bright, successulf people with high social status. How could they be a problem instead of the solution? They won't have it. They'd rather believe any lie than have to deal with the consequences of admitting to themselves they've based their lives on nonsense.

Much like any group of experts in any age or culture, mind you.

The good news is that the number of them are increasing every day as people are begining to realise that medicine is supposed to be a careing science, and that there is a person with emotions attached to it.

I will keep posting, 'anti-psychiatry' saved me from the medical model, I belived all that seratonin marketing bull and was deep into pill dependence with side effects and withdrawal reactions being labeled new disorders.

A few days ago I was reading 10 year old threads in another mental forum, It was bad back then.

I was reading 10 year old posts people wrote telling of how they have a chemical imbalance and they need pills to correct it and the worst part they were telling others this trash and to keep looking for 'the right meds' don't ever give up...


We are getting the word out, the proof is how the conversations in these forums have changed. Withdrawal reactions are known about and not labeled 'symptoms of the 'disease' as much.

Here's the kicker - I remember my attitude back when that interview came out, and I was exactly like Matt Lauer. This was before I "became" bipolar. Looking at this now, I think, well Cruise must be a nut because he's a scientologist, but when I listen to what he says in this interview, he's actually right about meds - but with one exception - that some meds may be useful for crisis situations and early rehabilitation.
