my story against psychiatry

I hate pschiatrists because of what they did to my sibling, they originally diagnosed her with bipolar disorder, then add then adhd then something else somtheing else and then something else, currently they say she is a paranoid or delusional schizophrenic after being misdiagnosed so many times i truly blame the medicine she was given, she went off her meds a few times, and the doctors BLAMED her when she's supposed to be crazy and not responsible, I wonder if I should sue but who knows, she is currently in the hospital receiving electric schock therapy. I believe I might have serious mental health problems but after what they did too her I am terrified to seek any form of therapy or counseling or too take any form of pills....... it's been 11 years and still no meds I feel very proud of that..... but I don't know what to do as my mental illness just seems to get worse all on it's own

What if you research all your symptoms on the net and on this forum and see if you can self diagnose to a point and than go and get a referral from your GP after telling him what you think you may have. In other words try to make an educated guess as to what your problems are and then 'steer' the professionals in the direction you think is the most likely. Perhaps that could minmise the chance of misdiagnosis. Over the years I have seen 1 psychiartrist and 3 psychologists and they all did their best to help and were most sympathetic and caring. I would say don't be scared to see a professional but also don't be scared to get other opinions or help if your not satisfied with the direction your therapy is heading in. Good luck to you.

In a lot of countries it is still possibly to receive only psychotherapy for certain problems.
You can seek help for the part of your problems which are treated by psychotherapy.
Naturally you shouldn’t let yourself be diagnosed schizophrenic or bipolar disorder.

There are also a lot of cognitive behavioral therapy self-help guides for all kinds of problems (for example anxiety or depression). In the psychology library I even found a booklet titled “Think you're crazy? think again: a resource book for cognitive therapy for psychosis”.

In a lot of towns there are also volunteers wanting to help people with mental health problems.

Besides internet forums, there are all kinds of ways people with similar problems are coming in contact with each other, even voice hearers: http://www.intervoiceonline.org.

in the usa the medical model for schizophrenia is drugs first as a baseline treatment.

i feel like my WHOLE life has been ruined by letting myself be diagnosed. i mean i was teen and naive to psychiatry naturally because i didnt even know much about life. NOW ive been in heaps of predicaments with multiple hospitalizations and with the police.

i keep having this gut feeling that i bet i could help myself without those meds. and i feel like it would be stupid to write that feeling off. i would like to explore it.
And we don't know
Just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
