[quote="Psych_666"]Has anyone given St Johns Wort or Valerian a go.
I've ordered myself some.I was reported on a TV program that it was superior to well known Anti-Depressants,and without there dangers.
Obviously the Medical profession are not going to promote it because the drug companies will go bust and they will be out of a Job.

I've tried St. Johns Wort, and it didn't do anything for me. I tried 5HTP, and it worked somewhat; I was taking quite a bit; forget the exact dosage. But after a month or so, it stopped working.
I realize that this forum is anti-psychiatry, but the AD Effexor has worked for me, and it just keeps on going. It's not optimal, but I don't live with suicidal thoughts day after day. Today, I read that anti depressants work with those who suffer with Major Depressive Disorder(Clinical Depression), but they usually only work when the person afflicted is very deeply depressed. And for even some of those, they don't work. I went for decades trying this and trying that until Effexor came along. I'm glad it did.
And I'm not a fan of Psychiatry. However once in a while they come through. Not very often, but...

I always put out a cautionary statement when people mention 5HTP and St John's Wort. Please be cautious when taking these along psychiatric medications as they increase serotonin. Too much serotonin cause cause a very dangerous condition called Serotonin Syndrome. Let your doctor know if you are taking these medications.
