Baker Acted

I am not per se "anti-psych," however, I have decided to go totally med free which includes my 120mg Cymbalta, which I have been taking for a long while, plus other meds including high blood pressure med, thyroid, and meds for non-life threatening but annoying/painful conditions. I am not seeing much in return for the amount of meds (10+) that I am throwing down my throat multiple times daily. Can I be put on a psychiatric hold for refusing to take my meds. I have a family member who is making such assertions. I live in TX, if that makes any difference. Thanks,

Hey Bereft,

Most involuntary hospitalization laws are enacted only if someone is suicidal, psychotic, dangerous or unable to take care of themselves. So if you're doing okay you shouldn't have to worry about anything. Also, I don't think psychiatrists care too much about compliance with antidepressants. Although they would probably take issue with you suddenly stopping the Cymbalta. That make the withdrawals much worse than by tapering off slowly.

Anyways, hope everything works out. Take care.

I was baker acted and that arrogant quack doctor made threats of injection with antipsychotics in an attempt to coerce me to take them by mouth along with trileptal and cogentin. This was when they called my withdrawal symptoms and reactions to there abuse (locked doors and threats) a bipolar mixed episode. If I had cancer (a real disease) and refused chemo-therapy for that, no one would make threats of raping me with a needle behind locked doors.

This website takes no prisoners and rips apart all the psychiatric bull > http://www.cchr.org

These two websites http://www.madinamerica.com and http://www.mindfreedom.org are by survivors of psychiatry also tell the real truth about psychiatric abuse of human rights and promote recovery from psychiatric labels and drugs.

Read them and tell this family member the truth about psychiatry.

Thanks for replies. I am not seeing a psych and haven't in a long time. Everything I am/was taking was prescribed by gp or one of the other myriad of doctors that I am seeing for "physical" ailments.

I am just tired of taking rx that don't appear to be doing anything. After 120 mg of Cymbalta a day, I shouldn't still be having major depressive issues. What I really want is for the majority of the people in my life to leave me alone. Emotionally I am FUBAR'ed to the max and I can't deal with anything more. I haven't drank or done drugs in decades but they are beginning to sound more and more appealing.

I need these leeches off of me and let me cling to whatever tiny piece is left of me.

Hey Bereft,

I'm sorry to hear about your family. I imagine being in conflict with your family must make your depression worse and harder to cope with. However, just because Cymbalta has not helped improve your depression doesn't mean that it is intractable. There are many treatments for depression including psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, social support and pharmacotherapy. Please don't entertain your hopeless thinking, things can and probably will get better.

Take care and best wishes.

Like dont give up hope. I was on 7 different pills all at the same time once and was a total mental mess because of them going to the E.R and getting baker acted myself. I only take a pill now for sleep as needed If I want to and am better than I ever was on all those pills that only made me worse as they added up. I cant belive Im writing this but mabey you shoud see a psychiatrist, A hear the good ones will try to help get you off meds to see what your baseline is without them instead of piling on more. The only place I know for getting off psychiatric drugs is here www.medicationwithdrawal.com/ This was listed on madinamerica.

Cymbalta withdrawal wishing I was normal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srWMvRcHEfs

Its time for some of these pharma executives to do some jail time.
