It can be done!

Hello, I'm Laura. And I've been suffering with anoerixa for way over 3 months now. I was sent to a health centre where I receive counselling and help. I have been rushed to a and e before because of extremely bad heart pains and was nearly admitted to a eating disorder unit in Cambridge because my doctor was worried that my kidneys were packing up, they were deteriating slowly. This is what changed everything. Being told that I will not be able to have children if my periods do not come back devastated me. Also being told that I would be sent away from home for months to get better scared me so much. I couldnt do it without my mum, shes my rock. Then I got put on these fortisip drinks which have really helped me. I am starting to feel slightly better already. I knew that if I didn't try then that was it, my kidneys would pack up and i was dead. The first day was the hardest time of my life but it gradually gets easier. With the support from friends and family and the help from the counsellor I have started to very slowly recover. It takes time but gradually everything becomes easier, just trust the people around you. Food doesn't seem so scary and the freedom you feel once you have taken that first step is incredible. Yeah I have started to put on weight but so what? At least now I can live my life and not be so isolated by this voice in my head. It's still there and will be for a while but it's much quieter now. I just wanted to say it can be done! And if you're suffering from this horrible illness then you can over come it in time! Don't let anoerixa control you, YOU control it! Just tell yourself you can do this and that you're beautiful whatever you look like :)

Hi Girl! It's really nice to hear that you are beginning to slay your dragons. It's extra nice of you to come and share that experience with us.
I read your first post when you joined at the beginning of the month but felt that barnaby and atticus had pretty much covered anything that I would have said to you. I just wanted you to know that you were heard by more people than you know and now that you are fighting your way back maybe you can share your victories and inspire some people(maybe more than you know) by coming back and sharing those with us. We need to hear about all of the victories-- big and tiny-- that we can.

Thankyou! :) That's what i wanted to do, i wanted to show people that it can be done! And i know that some people would have read this and thought ha it's not that easy. and trust me, i know it's not easy whatsoever! it's the most difficult thing i have ever had to do and trust me, i've been through alot in my life!
Once you've taken that first MASSIVE step that is bigger than everest! You will gradually and steadily get better. You will realise that food isn't your enemy and that it's your friend and keeps you alive.
Being told that if i don't drink or eat more, my kidneys will pack up and that i will be seriously ill or even dead next year i had to change my ways.
Also i met up with someone who has suffered with anoerixa aswell and she was a massive help and completley understood how i felt! Sharing your problem with someone that has also experienced it or is still experiencing it, but is getting better will really benefit you and seeing them healthy and happy really makes you think :) I'm not saying that i have magically recovered because i haven't, but i am getting there and determined to not go to hospital or get put into the unit in cambridge! If anyone wants to speak to me about it then i would be delighted to try and help :) xx

I think it's great that you are putting in the work-- oh yeah, work. I would think that any of us who have suffered with an eating disorder for one day know that there is not one thing about it that is easy. I sure hope you keep updating this thread or somewhere so we can all enjoy your progress. This site doesn't have a blog area, so you can just keep updating this thread with your progress.
Good luck, and hugs to ya!

haa yeah it is definatly nor easy at all! But the first step is the worst. Once you've done that you can start to feel happier and free. Also proud of yourself! :)
