Please help, my friend has A.N & won't change her lifestyle!

Postby QuincyJames » Sat Oct 16, 2010 3:59 pm

My best friend has anorexia... She is a gym addict, will not eat ANY substantial food (only fruit, candy, popcorn, soup and coffee etc). She also has a very serious kidney disease. Her eating disorder and extreme exercise regime has created a lifestyle that is leading to complete self destruction. It's upsetting and horrible to see. Last week she was admitted to hospital with bleeding kidneys, but now she is back in the gym twice a day and is back to her lifestyle.

I have tried and tried to talk and address the situation with her for over a year now.

Can ANYONE please help or give me any advice that could provide me with new ideas/approaches to help my best friend who I love and do not want to lose.

Thank you in advance

Quincy

Qunicy, first off let me say I'm sorry no one has responded to you before now. I hate how that happens far too much. I wish there were some magic words to say to her.
Sometimes the things that help the most is being around those that have similar problems. There is always a reason to not listen to someone who doesn't have a clue as to where you are coming from.
If there is some way you can get her to a support group of her peers (her real peers of like mind in some recovery), then that may be the best bet.

These things come with a lot of shame and to have them thrown in your face only seems to exacerbate them.
