Night sweats and chills related?

Postby Zenndora » Thu Feb 25, 2010 9:11 pm

It has been just about six months that my anorexia has been snaking its way into my life. I'm not convinced I'm 100% anorexic, but I do know I've lost more than 40 pounds in that time frame and generally enjoy feeling hungry and smaller. I'm almost 6 feet tall and just under 132 lbs at the moment.

When I do eat, its usually crap. One cup of coffee first thing in the morning, probably a soda or energy drink to spike up my blood sugar a few hours later, and one small meal (lately, Wheat Thins or bread).

Last week, a strange symptom popped up. When I go to bed, around 5-10 minutes after laying down, my entire body from the neck down gets completely soaked in cold sweat. I have the sensation of being incredibly cold and ferociously hot at the same time. It goes away entirely the minute I get up, but begins again 5-10 minutes after laying back down. Curiously, I can nap during the day without this happening. I'm always cold, day or night, but never covered in sweat until I try to sleep at night.

Any idea whats going on? I'm seeing a doctor tomorrow and I'm bringing it up to him, but I'm curious to see if this is somehow related to my eating habits.

Hey,

I'm just guessing that the electrolytes in your body are '@!@@@!' up. They should be in certain concentration ranges to keep the correct volumes of fluid in your cells, blood, and in the tissue around your cells. If the concentrations go one way, it can result in fluid loss; if they go the other way, it can lead to water retention (effectively yuor cells become 'plump' with water). The main electrolyte that affects this is Sodium I think. So, after your long anorexic journey, perhaops yor sodium levels have finally gone out of the normal range.

The cold feeling you get could be due to your liver 'extracting' all sugar from your blood and your brain putting your body into hibernation mode. It could also be due to your adrenal glands not working peoperly (look up Addison's Disease; http://endocrine.niddk.nih.gov/pubs/addison/addison.htm).

Let me know what the doctor says. I'm not a doctor.
