Restrictive eating causing insomnia

Postby xcagedsilhouttex » Wed Sep 19, 2018 2:12 am

Whenever I restrict my diet, I find it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I would usually elaborate more but I don't have enough energy at this moment.

How long have you been restricting? Is it just during nighttime or do you have more energy during the day? This usually happens to me as well (insomnia whilst fasting) during the transitional stage whenever I do keto. I wonder if it's our brains giving us a burst of energy to search for food? Perhaps eat a carb before bedtime, carbs make you sleepy. Don't worry it won't last very long.

So that's why we can't sleep? We can only sleep at night if we take our bedtime medication and even then only for maybe four or five hours we've been restricting for a few months now but in the last six weeks it's gotten dramatic we have lost xx pounds and have never weighed less before in our life.

Hi littleDaria ,

Lots of things can happen in our bodies when we deny it it food . There is a healthy way to lose weight and there are unhealthy ways with unhealthy consequences . Please consider asking your heath professionals for advice on a balanced diet for your type of metabolism / weight goals . You might also see if you can work with a nutritionist to come up with a healthy eating plan .

As much as I advise people against using " Dr. Google " in place of a real-life health care professional , there is some good info on basic nutritional needs to be found in a web search . But a full physical and blood panel can help pinpoint specific things your diet is low in .

I restrict my food and suffer from insomnia as well. Even my sleeping meds don't help for more than a few hours. It's very frustrating. Try eating some cereal or crackers before going to bed just to get something on your tum-tum.

Low blood sugar levels are a likely cause. If you are able to have some form of sugars that should help, but not for long (unless you are able to eat a normal amount). For me the amount required to let me fall asleep when I was ill lasted around 2 hours.
