Obsession with losing weight

Postby silentflood » Sun Jun 11, 2017 6:17 pm

So lately I've been relapsing back into my eating disorder. I'm to the point now where I weigh myself every morning. I'm obsessed because every morning my weight goes down a little more. It's so addicting seeing the number go down. It actually makes me... happy. I'm obsessed with seeing my weight go down. Does anyone else experience this? :?

yep..

I threw the scales out about a year ago now.. I'm not happy with my weight right now because i'm feeling a bit 'heavy' - but no way am i getting another set of scales anytime soon, i end up stuck in an endless loop of ''ugh.. I've gained some weight''.. ''ugh, i haven't lost any weight''.. ''awesome, i've lost some''.. ''awesome.. i've lost some''.. ''awesome, i've lost some''..

Do you think you'd feel able to throw the scales out? it's often a really good idea.. just to break that part of the obsession.
Certainly not a 'cure'.. I think that we're in recovery and relapse for an incredibly long time, if we ever recover at all.. but just breaking that part of the disorder can help your health a huge amount xx

The scale is my mom's scale and she keeps it in the bathroom. So I can't necessarily 'throw it out' but I see what you mean. It's a good idea, I just can't throw away a scale she paid for. :/

ah..

I didn't think about the fact that you might live with someone and the scales might not be yours..

Does our mom know about your eating disorder, and would she be okay with keeping the scales somewhere that you won't be able to access them easily? (her bedroom perhaps)..

She knows about it because I was inpatient twice for it. She thinks I'm better now. I would hate to disappoint her. Maybe I could ask her if she minds keeping it in her room.

I use the scale daily too. I don't know what it's going to tell me. Sometimes I want the scale to go down, sometimes I want the scale to go up. It pointless but I still do it. It just tells me I'm not happy. I only seem to use the scale when I'm unhappy with my body. I don't use it when I'm feeling good about my body. If you are like me, the scale is a warning sign. The more you use it, the more you are thinking about it. Try to break that habit and use a wall mirror instead. I don't know if that is any different. At least you are looking at your pretty reflection and not a bunch of numbers.
