I've been diagnosed with anorexia since age 8 and have suffered off and on (with various co-morbidities such as PTSD)...multiple hospitalizations did no good until I decided I would only get out of it what I put into it.
Courage, self-love and acceptance...wish there was a magic wand but it's always an uphill battle.
It is with a surprising amount of indignance that I get to my subject-line point -- I don't meet the DSM V criteria for anorexia but the thoughts and struggle are EVER PRESENT...so why on earth isn't there a support forum for ED NOS???
My point is that I need support every bit as much as someone who fits into a neat little ICD9 label...anyone out there agree?

Hello there

I'm glad you made this forum
I was surprised that there isn't a separate section for EDNOS because it's a very common eating disorder. I have been given a diagnosis of EDNOS and my main problem is restriction because I don't think I deserve to eat unless I'm doing something productive. I can't imagine what it's like to be recovering from an ED that started at age 8. I'm 21 and have only had these issues since I started university 3 years ago. Has it been quite up and down for you, or consistently difficult?

Hi guys,
It would be wonderful if we had a forum for ED NOS! I'm sorry that we don't. However, I think choosing a sub-forum that matches your experience as best as possible (as you've done here with anorexia) is a great idea, and you're welcome to offer support or post about your experiences as much as you wish.
Thanks for posting and hope you're well.

I agree, not very many people even know about EDNOS but if I'm not mistaken it's the most common eating disorder? I've had to tell multiple medical professionals that I've had it and almost every time I need to explain what it is to them. I was hoping that they'd have a forum on this website because I worry that posting in the ana and mia forums will make me look like a wannabe.

I agree, I was diagnosed with EDNOS before I got diagnosed with Anorexia and there was no support when it came to EDNOS because it wasn't seen as being as severe or dangerous as Anorexia or Bulimia, but through the years I have learnt that it is as if not more dangerous (I say more dangerous just because there is no real support or information about EDNOS so many are left untreated and not helped along the way to recovery) I know I contacted my local mental health care provider and they didn't even realise what EDNOS was which I found to be absolutely ridiculous since they're the ones if any who should have the education, it's their job to know.
