Fasting?

Postby anxiousabby » Sun Sep 03, 2006 8:21 pm

I don't want to become anorexic, and not eat, but I do have symptoms of an ED-NOS... but what i want to know, is it really that unhealthy to fast for a week or two to lose weight? If I start eating a normal amount of calories again after the fast? Just wondering.

its never healthy to deprive your body of the nutrition it needs, and it can lead to self-destructive behavior. since you say you use it as a method to lose weight and you recognize the problem you have [EDNOS] i would be careful. it could get out of control very quickly. find someone you trust to talk to. its always good when you question yourself and recognize something wrong in your behavior, it keeps you from hurting yourself before you lose control in the long run. please look into this.

Hey anxiousabby,
I, too, have Eating Disorder NOS... And no, it definetely isn't healthy, hon... It might seem like it's not too bad, but it's true that it can get out of control quickly, which has been happening to me lately. Plus, there's the fact that you could easily pass out by fasting, and it's a dangerous cycle to get yourself into. It's much healthier to just balance out your meals, rather than going from eating a lot to fasting. Have you seen a doctor about this?
Take care,
<3

plus...a fast is almost always followed by a binge and you will end up gaining most of it back, if not more than you managed to lose...

I'm Muslim and currently fasting. We fast from sunrise to sunset and I heard that it's healthy as opposed to unhealthy.

but then you eat an evening meal, you still eat something.

it's not healthy to fast for a week or two to lose weight. your body doesn't get the nutrients it needs. your bones, teeth, heart, and hair are seriously damaged.

also--- even if you don't binge after the fast you'll still lose weight. while fasting your metabolism slows way down, so once you start eating normally again it takes longer for your body to break down the food.

i do that too though, it does easily get out of control. two weeks becomes three, three becomes a month, a month becomes two. . . it's just a really bad cycle to get into.
not sure if i've survived. . .
