Am I?

Postby MJ » Mon May 01, 2006 9:54 pm

I was bulimic for a long time, but for about a month I have cut down to, well very few calories every day (I normally just have a peppermint in the afternoon on weekdays and eat around 300 calories on weekends). I am still at a normal weight, so I'm not anorexic, am I?

I would count you as being in the early stages of it. The reason why you feel that everything is okay is because your body is still getting energy from your remaining reserves of fat, your muscle, and your bones. It cannot last though and eventually you will begin to feel the ill-effects.

You must act now. Try to increase your caloric intake by even just 100 calories per day and see how you feel.

I agree with Chucky. If you continue the way you are you will end up with anorexia. It can be an insidious disease. Your mind tells you to carry on and continue to eat fewer and fewer calories. Finally by the time you are pencil thin, and endangering some of your vital organs you will have to face what you allowed to happen to you.

I've had chronic bouts with anorexia for 35 years. One of my kids became anorectic when he was 15. By the time that person was 16 it scared the heck out of me just to look at him. He was willing to go through intense treatment right away.

He is now 23 yrs and has no problem whatsoever with the ED.

I don't know what your situation is...could you go to counseling? or you might get some books from the llibrary that you might find helpful.

I wish you the best,
