Watching yourself eat

Postby anglophiliac » Mon May 06, 2013 8:23 pm

On the off chance that I do allow myself something to eat, I always have to get up and go to the mirror and watch myself eat. I literally don't know why I do it. I can eat without watching myself, but if there is a reflective surface around, I have to watch myself.

Does anybody else do this or have any other weird eating-related things they do?

I have to eat things in a specific order. I try not to let myself do this though. I'm told that it's part of being anorexic - developing habits surrounding food. I've been told about other things that other people do too, and there are some other habits that I am trying to break. I think the hardest one for me will be eating with other people in the room. That will be a big step for me.

I've yet to meet someone with an eating disorder who doesn't have rituals surrounding their food.

The ones I'm still dealing with are being afraid of having food on my hands (I eat everything, even wings or pizza, with utensils, and while preparing food I have to watch my hands after each time the food has to touch me) and not letting my lips touch the fork if it's something I have anxiety about eating. It's sort of like an involuntary sneer. I don't know why these two have persisted for so long, only that not doing them causes a great deal of anxiety.
Blame it on me, but know that I won't regret one iota.
