Making progress

Postby FrayedEndOfSanity » Wed Apr 29, 2009 9:15 pm

OK, so this might be a mild example, compared to reaching for a can of gasoline and a lighter when someone or something pisses me off.

I was on a random website last week, and I really liked the midi file that was playing in the background. I e-mailed the webmaster and asked for the name of the song. Today, it's been a week, and I still haven't received a response. For some reason, I was really jacked. Racing heart, tense muscles, raging headache; the works.

My first thought was that I wanted to show up at Yahoo! headquarters with a two-by-four.
Then I realized that Yahoo! had nothing to do with it. They're just my e-mail client. I started writing a pissed-off, thanks-for-nothing letter to the webmaster.
Then I turned it inward, thinking that I was the least important person on earth, and that it was rude of me to bother the webmaster for such a trivial matter.

Then I realized that they probably receive hundreds of e-mails per day. The non-response has NOTHING to do with my worth as a human being, and is not an insult. So my emotions, thankfully, returned to neutral.

Then I realized that there's this nifty thing on my mouse called its right button. I clicked it, and checked the website's source code. It was surprisingly simple, and had a tagged midi file. From there, I was able to figure out the name of the song.

So we go from here: http://earthhopenetwork.net/wolflinks.htm
To here: http://www.rhapsody.com/pat-surface-2/d ... yrics.html

There were no casualties, and I'm pretty proud of myself right now.

By the way, I think that some of you may enjoy the song. Cooley's Reel for the win.

Hello Fray. Very proud and even more so happy for you, I've been doing this myself. When no one pays me any attention and worse yet, if the attention I get is negative I begin to hate and despise the person, even if it's a good friend of mine. An example of this is when two of my friends made remarks about my intelligence, all in jest mind you, and I begin yelling and whining at them about it, talking down to them and such. This was about a year ago I think, way before I knew what was wrong inside and why I felt like this. My intelligence, one of the few things that made me feel superior to everyone else (this is how I'd think) was being utterly crushed, by a simple joke, that I'D make even.

Very hypocritical and mean, I do it with everything that makes ME feel better, but when it's done back at me I blow up. Work is another good one. I like people waiting on me hand and foot, but if the roles are reversed I feel I'm a slave. About the only people I don't mind helping and don't like to have serve me are the elderly and sickly, just out of the kindness of my heart. I often think I'm superior, sometimes to the point I imagine I'm super human, but when confronted with reality or someone who IS better than me in a particular field, it all comes crashing down and I resent and envy that person. I've gotten better though, I recognize the patterns and much like you, I can direct it in a more healthy manner.

Sorry for stealing your thunder in your own thread, I just wanted to get that off my chest.

No apologies needed. I know how hard you work at the roadblocks you face! I think it's awesome that you're making progress, and you deserve to feel good about it. :)

hello frayedendofsanity,

i liked your post. It was really nice to read about controlling own emotions. You had made progress towards controlling yourselves. That's good in your life. You know if you can control yourself very nicely, then also realize this that you can achieve anything you wanted, i think.

Thank you for such great post! :)

Thank you for your support. It means a lot. I hope that others will continue to share their positive progress, too!
