I throw things in anger

Postby JohnDeereMi » Sat Nov 01, 2008 5:19 am

When I feel the need to express myself during times of angry moments I tend to throw things to let it out. I lose all control of my actions to a point that I simply dont care about the result end. What methods should I be doing instead?

I know what you are feeling but the only way I managed to control my anger was through the use of an anti-depressant - seriously. Have you gone to your GP about this? It can easily be controlled dude.

I am being treated by a Doctor already. I get sudden rage. I have gotten conditions like this ever since being in a near fatral car crash 7 yrs ago in which I got head injuries. Im on medication and it only does so much. I take things one day at a time now.

Okay, you seem to feel positive about your future coping with this. What is the type of medication that you are taking though?

All I can do is take baby steps but after a while I feel like for every step I take forward, I take 2 steps backwards. It is an unending struggle that I hope to one day win. That is all I want. The anger steps do help but when the anger gets so bad, I actually see and hear nothing but my voice. It is hard to explain.

good for you for trying! It takes a long time to reverse habits and make changes. Many people - including me - have found help by trusting and praying to God as well!

I struggle with the same problem and have destroyed quite a bit of my property because of this. I've tried the suggestions below, they have sometimes worked for me so maybe you can try them and see how things go. Although, you can't just do them one time and expect it to work. Practise!

- The old fashioned "hit a pillow". It's an oldie but a goodie if there's one near by.
- Tense your muscles as hard as you can and then relax them slowly. Do this a few times when you can just start to feel the anger coming on.
- Go outside and run as fast as you can. Get rid of all that energy. People will just think your training!
- Invest in a punching bag.

If you want to gain control of your actions then maybe join an anger management support group. I know it's kind of stigmatizing but it's better than repeatedly destroying things and regretting it later, right?
Hopefully things work out for you.
Maybe you can ask the doctor who prescribed you with the meds to help you find some helpful anger management resources/support.

Hello dear friends.

I understand what you are going through because I had the same problems a I while ago but something very special happened to me and since then I managed to learn a few important things that happened to change my whole life.

When I was in anger and felt the need of throwing that anger out I always did push ups. Do 20, if you still have a lot of energy (negative) do 50, do 100, do 200 push ups. If you still feel that something is wrong do some sit ups. Do some work out. This helps a lot!

After a friend recommended me this approach towards my anger I went into martial arts, practicing jujutsu. Now, after many years I can say that I am completely free of anything related to anger management.

If you understand the essence of martial arts then there is no possible way that any anger still remain in you. Guaranteed!

P.S That is just my experience and it all depends on the individual. But as far as pushups work - yep they do! ;)
