Cosmos, I used to have intense anger in me too. The worst was when I actually threatened my dad with a hunting knife. Other things included shouting at my mother - even cursing at her - for the slightest of things. I was so angry because things weren't going right for me in my life: I had dropped out of my first college course and had nothing going for me.

However, I went to my local doctor, was prescribed an anti-depressant, and that 'took away' my anger. If you have any willingness to get rid of this anger, you have to go to your doctor, and you are going to have to start trying hard to control this. Think about the things that make you angry, for example, and plan for the next time that they will happen. If you do this, you are more likely to be able to take a step back and think logically when the thing actually occurs.

Take care,
Kevin

Chucky.

What EXACTLY happened at the doctor? Did they inform your parents or the police? What did you have to say?
Please tell me everything.

And how old are you? Over 18, yes?

Soldat,

I didn't tell my doctor about the knife incident (but my mother probably did), and the police were never informed by anyone. Like, I wasn't actually going to use the knife at all. I just wanted to scare my mother and father. The thing is, if you appear to be a threat to society but are still young and are actively seeking help, then they will take a kind view on your situation. I was over 18 when all of this happened, and I am 25 now.

Why the sudden interest?

Not that sudden. I've been lurking here without posting for a long time. The usual meditation, self-massage, thinking positive thoughts, preparing for the situation and/or relaxation is plain #######4 for weak-minded, average people and we both know it. Since you said the medicines took away your anger I went through the trouble to make an account...
It's just that I'm not 18 and can't afford anyone to know. Talking to anyone without absolute confidentiality would be a social suicide. Too bad that because I've had these past knife "incidents", not just threatening, psychologists have the right to tell anything I say either to my parents or to the police.

What is the name of the drug they gave you?
What is the dosage?
What are the side-effects?

I could get valium from a friend, but it's has increased aggressiveness as a side-effect.

Okay, whatever is happening to you is your business only and I won't ask about it. I will answer your questions though: The name of the drug I take is Lexapro - It's an SSRI and is used to typically treat depression and anxiety; I am currently on 10mg, but I started-off on 40mg; The side-effects are a reduced libido, tiredness, and a reduction in the intensity of emotions.

Take care dude,
Kevin

Anyone who can't control anger should be evaluated for intermittent explosive disorder, PTSD, anxiety, depression, bipolar and other mental health issues. These disorders could underlie aggressive or violent tendencies.
Please see a professional counselor, psychiatrist or family doctor asap.

I had forgotten to reply here because I have been busier elsewhere. What exactly is happening now? Is everything panning out nicely for you?

angercoach, no offense but I'm really starting to believe you're an automatic bot or something. Did you read my post?
I can control my anger. But there's a limit for everybody. Excuse my vulgar example, but anger is like bladder. It gets filled every day and you have to keep it closed. The thing is, with anger, you can't empty it. When the bladder gets too full you can't hold it anymore.

Chucky, what do you mean?
The knifey-thing happened two years ago and I've been punished for that. I talk to no-one about anything personal so there's no reason to treat me differently. If I hate something it's pity and empathy. So if everyone'd be all "He's SPECIAL, be nice to him" I'd just get more angry.
