I want to know. It’s not “kind”, but is it ever necessary? What do you think? I want to tell everyone to shut up all the time.

Is that a bad thing? Should I not do that?

Thanks.

Wikipedia says “Its use is generally considered rude & impolite, and may also be considered profanity by some.” Well butter my buttocks & call me a biscuit. Thanks.

I can think of several other ways to indicate that you want someone to shut up .Those may achieve the desired result without being viewed as unnecessarily blunt or rude . It is also a matter of knowing your audience . There are people who are perfectly fine with being told to shut up and there are those who find it quite offensive .
You can pretty much pick the latter out by the expression on their faces when you utter the words .
