Friend has mental/anger issues and I am fearing for my life

Postby YeahDunno » Sat May 04, 2019 1:39 am

Hi there this is my first post ever.

An ex-friend of mine is depressed and has self esteem/anger issues.

He also blames me for a lot of things that has happend in his life even tho I am pretty sure it's not my fault. Yet he stays in the victim mindset and blames me.

So I disconnected from him and he contacted me after a few months that's he's going to kill me for ruining a few years of his life (again no clue why I apparently ruined his life). I know he is not stable, what should I do? I know he is able to do such things. I know that if he feels that someone truely ruined his life, he will hate that person forever. He has trouble letting go and forgiving.
I don't want any trouble, he is currently in jail for something else.

Do I talk to him? Do I ignore him?

What is the best thing I can do in such a situation?

My idea was contacting his family and setting up a meeting to talk, just to talk about it and make sure he has no grudges against me anymore. I really can't be bothered about who did something wrong or right, I will just tell him he's right all the time, apologise and hope he lets everything go.

Is this a good idea?

Note: Going to the police will make him more mad, the police will barely do much if he truelly wants to hurt me, they can't stop him.

Not sure where to post this, I hope this is the right section.

Kind regards,
YeahDunno

Welcome YeahDunno ,

I think the best thing you can do right now is to maintain no contact . If he escalates his threats , then I would go to the police . If you're not comfortIe filing a formal statement , you can at least ask them for some practical advice . I don't know if talking to his family will accomplish anything . It sounds like a very uncomfortable situation .

Thank you for the response, I already made an appointment with the police which is Sunday to explain what happend, it's without any prosecution, so just in case something happens with me, they will know about it. I will await their advice to see what they suggest.

I won't lie I already contacted the family member of him and told him he will go behind bars for a long period of time if he keeps acting like that (I study law) but I obviously bluffed him but they don't know, so now the family member is talking to his parents about it. I said if he wants to sort this out as normal adults, I won't go to the police. He said his mother always gets to him so she will take care of it and give me an update about it the next day.

As conformation I want to speak to him as well through the phone so I know it's done and something of the past.

If he doesn't meet the demands I will go to the police.

That's kinda the update so far.
