I need anger management.

Postby thegentlepath » Thu Sep 20, 2018 2:29 pm

I wrote some words on another forum that had to be edited by a moderator, rightfully so. I was discussing bad choices I might make because of my anger. That is, actions I might take in not dealing with my anger proactively, but rather letting it bubble to the surface unintentionally.

Anger is energy. It must be harnessed for good & channeled positively. I read the sticky here & it was very helpful. I want to write about my anger offline too. It’s inside me & will express itself regardless. I also like the idea of a punching bag, but with my little stick arms, I’d probably self-injure.

I’m also working on getting better sleep. That is a long-term battle, but I’ve been able to achieve good sleep before with appropriate measures. I also need to get back into meditation. I need to do many things, honestly. Thank you for giving me a place to sort this all out. 8)

Anger doesn’t stay in the body for more than a few hours

Work out who or what is making you feel angry, deal with it and you won’t have an anger problem

Trust me on this one

I’m 5% where I want to be in extricating myself from my most anger-making situation... It’s better than 0%, & who knows if I might escape one lousy situation for another situation as lousy or more lousy?

One thing I know for sure, waiting for others to “shape up” is never a tenable plan.

Not Gonna Happen.

At least I’m only the child of narcissists & not married to one. So there’s that.

Yippee skippy.

That is incorrect. I'm always angry at my parents. They didn't save me from AvPD. They didn't save me from anxiety. They didn't save me from constant paranoia. Yet, they knew when I was a kid I was behind in social development. And they didn't do anything about it. To make matters worse they are "devoted Christians" who always thinks I should treat them with respect because according to the "bible" kids should never yell parents blah blah blah. If I wasn't angry, I would have stop blaming everyone for my problems, and I would have let go of the past and move on.

I'm sorry MindOnAir , that you have to deal with this . I think that if your parents can't or won't help you with these issues , then it's all up to you now , isn't it ?

I mean , the past can't be undone but your future is yours , not theirs . I hope you can find some resources to help you heal . Your anger is justified but it can be a heavy weight to carry as life goes on .

The unnatural intensification of feelings in aggression sometimes inflates a minor problem to the scale of the universe. But as soon as the feelings go away, it turns out that there is no problem! They're gone! Keep this in mind always!

With feelings of aggression is very difficult to fight. They're too strong. They are manifested by a high level of internal tension. This can be removed by meditative exercises, but it is very difficult often. These feelings literally tear you apart, require implementation in the outside world. And it is dangerous for you and for others.

You can't be hysterical! That's why you need to be strong. But here, it is possible to spin without the help of drugs. This internal aggression is very easily redirected to any object. For example, you focus on it and start to break the benches that you see on your way with all your force of thought. That's ridiculous. A little laugh would never hurt you. You only remember in those moments when it is very hard for you that these states pass and they pass very quickly. They won't hurt you in any way. But the main thing for you is not to make terrible mistakes in these moments, do not fall for strong feelings.
Think of it as the wind.. It's the wind, it's the storm.
The wind will stop blowing but you will stay. Don't let that wind carry you off, blowing the roof off.

Thanks Malasha. I agree, mindfulness meditation has been helping me. Also, channeling energy in more positive directions. Limiting screen time. Practicing good sleep hygiene. Plus 2 million other things.

I'm glad you've found some ways to manage your anger TGP . It will make for a healthier you .

I'm working on cutting down my screen time too . I've been rediscovering some of the old books I loved .
It's made a definite improvement in my sleep to read for an hour or so before bed instead of web-surfing until I shut off the lights .

Thank you NewSunRising. My emotional regulation is much better now that I’ve been limiting time spent on my iPad. I’m also taking iron to treat anemia. Along with 2 million other things. Oh what fun we have!
