Is this serious?

I have often the tendency to hurt (punch) other people or throw (hot) drinks in their face, especially at social events or family dinners. I'm not a violent person at all or hateful in any way, and these urges are very random and concern as well strangers as people that i have known and loved my whole life.

I haven't done anything yet, but (and that's the reason i'm posting here) the urges are getting harder to contain and i'm afraid that one day i won't be able to contain myself.

This is also the case when i'm in a car, where i have the tendency to punch the driver (occurs very often). Is this recognisable to anyone? and should i try to seek professional help?

Ps. i'm a 29 year old male of somewhat reserved character.

I wasn't clear at first but it sounds like you have an urge and visualize it in your head but have not yet acted on it? Is this in response to something they did or is it just a random impulse for no reason? We all get angry and have impulses from time to time but usually have enough restraint to keep from acting on the impulses. I have strong impulses to jump off boats and out of moving cars ever since my 20s but have yet to act on any of the impulses. The problem arises when we are unable to contain the impulses. I would say if you feel you may be unable to restrain yourself or these impulses are coming out of no where for no reason you may want to go talk to someone. You could have some repressed anger that is being displaced and talking it out may help. Best of luck getting it sorted out.
