Basic tips to help with anger?

Postby biscuit23 » Wed Jan 02, 2013 11:44 am

What are some things a therapist might suggest to help with anger the first few times you go?
I dont want to go to a therapist about this but could use some tips.
I know about walking away from a situation that makes you angry & breathing slowly. But I dont find these that helpful. I still keep thinking about whatever is making me angry later.
Are there any other things I can try?
Thanks.

Research how to let go of expectations and accepting the past.
Don"t give up like others have. Go find your happiness.

I've discovered that the best way to get rid of anger is to keep a journal. I write down whatever's bothering me, why it's bothering me, what I want to do to them but can't, etc. I make my writing as violent and bloody as I want to, and then I just save it in this journal. I purge those thoughts, and keep them in this book. So they're not really gone; I've just transferred them from my brain to a page. It works wonders for me and I definitely recommend it!

I've done that as well, write them down, wrote songs, or just simply locked myself in a room and just screamed it out, perhaps trying that out will help. Listening to calming music or just yelling at an object that you pretend its the person or thing thats making you feel so angry and upset.

I hope it help, if not let me know, I will think of other things.

One piece of advice I could give is to not engage in a drastic action out of anger, postpone your reactions and decisions until your angry mood has passed. I know this is easier said than done but it has helped me avoid some major problems when dealing with other people while I'm angry.
