Why do you all get drunk?

Do you know the fundamental cause of drinking? Because I believe Alcohol addiction is not chemical dependence, but it is a way to ease pains, painful emotional pains.
For me, I get drunk to ward off being alone. I feel so alone all the time. I feel so disconnected from the rest of the world. I feel so isolated. Even when I have families, I feel so alone. I often get drunk to fall into my own fantay worlds.
There are always ROOTS of drinking problem. Unless we work these Roots, i think we'll suffer from cravings for the rest of our lives.

Very true.
Some people do it to get numb, forget, change the way they feel, make time go faster or slower... loads of different reasons. Eventually it does become a physical addiction and a severe alcoholic needs a medical detox. I've known a few alcoholics who couldn't stop drinking because they'd have seizures and became delirious. After a while they were drinking just to avoid a health crisis and compounding their original issue.

I have borderline personality disorder which gives me a lot of emotions that I don't know how to handle. I drink to quiet those emotions and the fears that come with them. Fear of abandonment, rejection, etc. If I am very stressed, I run to the liquor store. So I agree that it is to numb pain. Message me if you like, I am looking for another alcoholic to talk to and you seem to have a similar view on things.

The majority of the time I do it for "courage." I am very shy so I drink inapproproately to try and become more confident and fearless and to just feel enlivened I guess. Usually I just make an ass out of my self, though.

I agree with Rob K. I am always overstimulated which means intrusive and disturbing thoughts and body tremors that keep me up all damn night! A shot or two will put me right to sleep.

I get drunk to ease anger and other negative emotions that I have trouble with. I also do it because it numbs me so I don't have to care about things so much.

I agree with Karma and Rob. I drink to escape my severe aloneness and depression. The voices in my head quiet after a few drinks and I enjoy my mental sanity when I dont hear that voice in my head asking me i wonder what she's doing, I wonder how she is, I wonder why she doesnt love me anymore, why I cant pull myself together after eight months, it's endless. You'd think it would quiet itself down after so llong.. but it doesnt. And I'm sorry if it soudns like I'm ranting, I'm a little bit drunk.
