I know from my own experience with alcoholism, and present recovery of 10 year, those first few months...even first year were tough. And I don't mean by wanting to drink...but by learning to deal with my feelings and emotions. I feel recovery is a process...not an event.

Your friend may still be dealing with a lot of guilt and shame from the choices he made. Now that he doesn't have alcohol in his system he's starting to feel. And that's new to an alcoholic

I suggest you give your friend some time and hopefully he'll "come around." Given time I bet you'll notice a little growth in his willingness to open up to you and also begin to feel more comfortable around people.

Surely you have to do help to your friend. We always help to our friends. You can take advice from expert doctor and any rehab center. All the best.
