withdrawal or panic attack

Postby big-jim » Fri Jul 15, 2011 9:27 am

Hi i am an alcoholic and suffer from anxiety. I know what withdrawal from alcohol is like and same as a panic attack.

Yesterday morning i woke up feeling like something that i dont feel very often but has happened before

I was shakey more than normal i felt like my whole body was shaking and about to go into a seziure, i felt like i was going to die, i felt panic.. and my vision was all hazy and the same with any thoughts in my head this is what made it weird, all this happened on waking up and lasted max 2 mins then i started to calm down.. but i felt awful this has happened before tho..

I have been stressed lately and do get nightmaires to me i think its some sort of panic attack caused by alcohol withdrawal on waking up, felt weird & scared the hell out of me.

Hi, big-jim! If you think it was caused by alcohol and it's happened before, you have to fight even more against your alcoholism. I've heard other people talk about getting panic attacks because of drinking or doing drugs, it can have long lasting effects too.
Are you trying to get some kind of treatment? You could try special centers for people who are addicted to substances.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-acute ... Background

Drug abuse, including alcohol and prescription drugs can induce symptomatology which resembles mental illness. This can occur both in the intoxicated state and also during the withdrawal state. In some cases these substance induced psychiatric disorders can persist long after detoxification, such as prolonged psychosis or depression after amphetamine or cocaine abuse. A protracted withdrawal syndrome can also occur with symptoms persisting for months after cessation of use. Benzodiazepines are the most notable drug for inducing prolonged withdrawal effects with symptoms sometimes persisting for years after cessation of use. Severe anxiety and depression are commonly induced by sustained alcohol abuse which in most cases abates with prolonged abstinence. Even moderate alcohol sustained use may increase anxiety and depression levels in some individuals. In most cases these drug induced psychiatric disorders fade away with prolonged abstinence.

Be carefull of "dual diagnosis" these alcohol induced psychiatric disorders fade away with prolonged abstinence.

I know there is nothing else in the world worse than a full blown panic attack, except when told to take deep breaths as if you never heard of THAT before. And a blood pressure machine is NOT an anxiety detector ! : )

I found for me going without any drugs, zero pills was the only way for me.

When you are suffering from anxiety and you are in detox... it's hell!

I understand. I am an alcoholic and have anxiety issues, too. The best thing to do is to contact a Doctor and be put on Librium. It helps. But, just so you understand why you get this, I might as put it down...

As you increase alcohol in your system for it's effects, the body has to accept it. It has no choice. You are the one putting a foreign chemical into your system. So the body has to do something. The body knows it can't survive without a balance of biochemicals, so your body is balancing itself out. (With the Alcohol.)

Now, you are no longer having alcohol intake. The body, once agin has to balalnce itself out. But, this time... it's a sudden stop. It's extremely difficult to taper off alcohol on your own... so, I would not want you too attempt it. But, when you stop alcohol (Cold Turkey) or no intake at all, the body has a fit. It's trying it's best to rearrange chemicals to, again, find equalibrium. So, your body is busy.

While this is happening, you will feel alot of stuff. Depression and anxiety are the worst. Anxiety goes through the roof. After so many days 7-10 days... the body equalizes out and the intense cravings and anxieties go away... eventually...

Panic attacks. If you get panic attacks... Our panic attacks come from the imbalance. We feel horrible and we already have anxiety. And, for those who are reading this post who do NOT have anxiety disorders... it can still happen to you. So, what is going on! Adrenaline is thrown into your sistem when not needed. Thoughts coupled with an a body trying to "get well" create a problem. An attack of anxiety. Panic attacks... you feel like you are going to die!

See Anxiety threads for Panic Attacks.

Panic attacks will only last for so long. Drink wate,r juice gatorade, or anything else that can get liquids in you... There are exercises that can help with Panic attacks that I know. See panic attacks for information. But, I guess what I wanted to say, is you are NOT alone when having these things. I get them, too. :)
This man was sexually assaulted (rape) and has OCD...yikes!

"It literally turned my life around!"

He worked in a Pyschiatric Hospital as a Nursing's Aid for 5 years.

He was also a patient on a few occasions for suicide, too.

If anyone wants to leave alcohol and other addiction then take help from rehab center. Alcohol effects are very bad for our health so we should keep avoid these addictions.

I think alcohol withdrawal can resemble severe panic attacks. But they can also be fatal.
